  • To improve stability of recombinant DNA pLC1 encoding endoglucanase gene and pGL1 encoding $\beta $-glucosidase gene, DNA fragments of genes coding endoglucanase and $\beta $-glucosidase were cloned within the recA gene on a pDR1453, and the pDRE10 and pDRG20 of recombinant plasmids were integrated into the recA gene on the E. coli 1100 chromosomal DNAs. The stability of inheritance was completely maintained in E. coli 1100; Transformants E. coli 1100/pDREIO and pDRG20 were expressed well by recA promoter and increased endoglucanase and $\beta $-glucosidase activities. This method can be used as a model to improve the stability of recombinant plasmid in large scale culture.

  • E-voting is expected to offer prominent advantages over traditional voting methods. Advantages include faster tallying, greater accuracy, prevention of void ballots, and lower cost. However, many experts express concerns about the potential for large-scale fraud. Recently, many paper based end-to-end (E2E) voter verifiable systems providing individual verifiability and universal verifiability have been proposed. These systems, unlike previous voting systems, are used in polling booths and without access to trusted computing devices at the time of voting. In this paper, we propose a practical and secure E2E voter verifiable system using a paper receipt based on cryptographic technologies.

  • Recently, the important issues of solar cell are low cost and high efficiency. Making low cost and high efficiency solar cell, there are many effects to development of inexpensive wafer, simplify process and improve optical, electrical properties. In this the study, the 2 step texturing method using micro blaster was developed to decrease reflection of incident lights. Air bridge electrode structure is suggested to expand the effective surface area and decrease the series resistance of finger electrode. The effects of 1 step texturing and 2 step texturing by micro blaster are compared. Reflectance of 1 step and 2 step texturing are measured 28.7% and 25.5%, respectively. The reflectance of 2 step texturing sample is lower about 3.2% than 1 step textured sample.

  • Exposure of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) causes a variety of biological and toxicology effects, most of which are mediated by aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). The ligand-bound AhR as a heterodimer with AhR nuclear translocator (ARNT) binds to its specific DNA recognition site, the dioxin-responsive element (DRE), and it results in increased transcription of CYP1A1 gene. Retinoic acid (RA) regulates the transcription of various genes for several essential functions through binding to two classes of nuclear receptors, the retinoic acid receptor (RAR) and retinoid X receptor (RXR). • The present investigation evaluated the antioxidant activities of water extracts from dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) aerial parts, roots, and mixed extracts. Mixed extract of T. officinale was a mixture of aerial parts and roots at 9:1 and 8:2 weight ratios. Extracts from aerial parts (DAE), roots (DRE), and mixture of aerial parts and roots (DME) were measured for cell viability and catalase activity in HepG2 cells, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity. Cell viabilities of HepG2 cells treated with DAE, DRE, DME 8:2, and DME 9:1 against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative damage were 63.4%, 54.6%, 76.7% and 83.4% at a concentration of $400{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. Catalase activity was highest in DME 9:1 (12.2 mU/min/mg protein) compared with DAE (9.0 mU/min/mg protein) and DRE (9.7 mU/min/mg protein). DPPH radical scavenging activity of DME showed a significantly lower $EC_{50}$ value than DAE ($EC_{50}$ value of DME $9:1=163.3{\mu}g/mL$, DME $8:2=172.4{\mu}g/mL$, and $DAE=173.7{\mu}g/mL$). Lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity of DME showed a significantly lower $EC_{50}$ value than DAE [$EC_{50}$ values of DME $(9:1)=454.4{\mu}g/mL$, DME $(8:2)=426.6{\mu}g/mL$, and $DAE=654.7{\mu}g/mL$]. The results indicate that a small amount of T. officinale roots increased antioxidant activity of aerial parts. Especially, a 9:1 mixture was more valuable than 8:2 mixture for industry.

  • We estimate the eruption history and magmatic eruptive volumes of each rock units to evaluate the volcanic eruption scale and volcanic hazard of the Ulleung Island. Especially, Maljandeung Tuff represents about 19~5.6 ka B.P. from $^{14}C$ dating, and Albong Trachyandesite, about 0.005 Ma from K-Ar dating in recent age dating data. These ages reveal evidences of volcanic activities within the last 10,000 years, indicating that the Ulleung Island can classify as an active volcano with possibility of volcanic eruption near future. Accumulated DRE-corrected eruptive volume is calculated at $40.80km^3$, within only the island. The calculated volumes of each units are $3.71km^3$ in Sataegam Tuff, and $0.10km^3$ in Maljandeung Tuff but $12.39km^3$ in accounting the distal and medial part extended into southwestern Japan. Volcanic explosivity indices range 1 to 6, estimating from the volumes of each pyroclastic deposits. The colossal explosivity indices are 5 in Sataegam Tuff, and 6 in Maljandeung Tuff in accounting the distal and medial part. Therefore, it is necessary for appropriate researches regarding possibility of volcanic eruption of the island, and establishment system of the evaluation and preparation for volcanic hazard based on the researches is required.

  • 18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ($^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT) scans are commonly used for the staging and restaging of various malignancies, such as head and neck, breast, colorectal and gynecological cancers. However, the value of FDG PET/CT for detecting prostate cancer is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of incidental prostate $^{18}F$-FDG uptake on PET/CT scans. We reviewed $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scan reports from September 2009 to September 2013, and selected cases that reported focal/diffuse FDG uptake in the prostate. We analyzed the correlation between $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scan findings and data collected during evaluations such as serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, digital rectal examination (DRE), transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), and/or biopsy to confirm prostate cancer. Of a total of 18,393 cases, 106 (0.6%) exhibited abnormal hypermetabolism in the prostate. Additional evaluations were performed in 66 patients. Serum PSA levels were not significantly correlated with maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) in all patients (rho 0.483, p=0.132). Prostate biopsies were performed in 15 patients, and prostate cancer was confirmed in 11. The median serum PSA level was 4.8 (0.55-7.06) ng/mL and 127.4 (1.06-495) ng/mL in the benign and prostate cancer groups, respectively. The median SUVmax was higher in the prostate cancer group (mean 10.1, range 3.8-24.5) than in the benign group (mean 4.3, range 3.1-8.8), but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.078). There was no significant correlation between SUVmax and serum PSA, prostatic volume, or Gleason score. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans did not reliably differentiate malignant or benign from abnormal uptake lesions in the prostate, and routine prostate biopsy was not usually recommended in patients with abnormal FDG uptake. Nevertheless, patients with incidental prostate uptake on $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans should not be ignored and should be undergo further clinical evaluations, such as PSA and DRE.

  • The dehydration responsive element binding protein 2C (DREB2C) is a dehydration responsive element/C-repeat (DRE/CRT)-motif binding transcription factor that induced by mild heat stress. Previous experiments established that overexpression of DREB2C cDNA driven by the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter (35S:DREB2C) resulted in increased heat tolerance in Arabidopsis. We first analyzed the proteomic profiles in wild-type and 35S:DREB2C plants at a normal temperature ($22^{\circ}C$), but could not detect any differences between the proteomes of wild-type and 35S: DREB2C plants. The transcript level of DREB2C in 35S: DREB2C plants after treatment with mild heat stress was increased more than two times compared with expression in 35S:DREB2C plants under unstressed condition. A proteomic approach was used to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying thermotolerance in 35S:DREB2C Arabidopsis plants. Eleven protein spots were identified as being differentially regulated in 35S:DREB2C plants. Moreover, in silico motif analysis showed that peptidyl-prolyl isomerase ROC4, glutathione transferase 8, pyridoxal biosynthesis protein PDX1, and elongation factor Tu contained one or more DRE/CRT motifs. To our knowledge, this study is the first to identify possible targets of DREB2C transcription factors at the protein level. The proteomic results were in agreement with transcriptional data.

  • In order to gain insight into the mechanism of the regulation of cytochrome P450IAl by arylhydrocarbon, the 5'-flanking region of a trout CYP450IAl 5'flanking DNA was cloned into pCAT-basic vector and it was transfected into Hepa-1 cells. 3MC treatment to hepa Ⅰ cells transfected with fish CYP450IAl-CAT construct results in mRNA increased by 2.81 fold when it was compared with that of control This increase of mRNA was decreased by concomitantly treated flavonoids such as morin. The levels of CAT mRNA that was treated with morin was 29.2-58.0% of 3MC stimulated CAT mRNA. Further investigation to find out if there are DRE, XRE or negative regulatory cis element in CYP450IA1 gene was undertaken. Results of the deletion study of 5'flanking DNA of trout P450IA indicate the existance of the negative(-1600 ~ -1300). CAT mRNA was about two-fold higher in deleted trout CYP450IAl-CAT construct transfected cells compared to the wi Id type trout CYP450IAl-CAT construct transfected cells. And The stimulatory effect of 3MC was no longer observed in col Is containing deleted CAT construct. [Supported by grants from the Korean Ministry of Education]
