Despite increase in a social requirement of good quality urban spaces and places in Korea still has been holding conventional ways of making a built environment, which results from the tendency of land use plan putting more importance on city function and economic feasibility rather than urban spaces. As a result of this, the stage of architectural design is forced to cope with this rigidity. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze architectural methods and limits of coping with rigid land use plan. To achieve this, design elements and methods of land use plan was analyzed to certify the reason of this rigidity in the first part of this study. Also, architectural elements which are specified in land use plan were subjects for analysis. Through this, types of rigidity in land use plan were categorized into three groups: 'inductive urban space', 'the lack of spatiality' and 'inducement to fixed building type'. Three architectural methods of correspondence with these rigidities were deducted; 1)using media expression 2)proposing multi-dimensional facilities for walking 3)variegating architectural types. Nonetheless, these methods cannot be fundamental solutions to create good urban spaces and places. The first is a trick and the second is geared toward excessive design, which leads proposed designs to change. The last type is involved only in superficial cityscape with the lack of integration of urban space. After all, these limits mean that architectural design should be accompanied with the stage of urban design making land use plan in order to create integrated built environments.
