Passive Control of Floor Vibration by Use of Stiffness and Beam Arrangement in Floor System

Abstract

The performance of passive control by structural design for floor vibration may depend on boundary condition, member length, dimension and beam arrangement in floor system. In this study, 9 types of beam-girder floor system were set up and statically designed for the $12m{\times}12m$ of column module building, according to the beam arrangement. Dynamic analysis was performed for the each floor system and the results were analysed to take structural design factors for passive vibration control in floor. Conclusively, some significant design factors were found as followings; (1) Joist slab system is effective in view of static design and structural material quantity but contrary to floor vibration design since it has almost one way stiffness and the other stiffness is extremely weak. (2) While floor beam arrangement consists of interior large beam and crossing small beams, this floor system has two way stiffness and vibration response was less then joist floor system. (3) As far as stiffness ratio between two perpendicular direction in floor system is less 7, it is effective for the passive control of floor vibration and there is only little difference in vibration response.
