Abstract

This study investigates the sensitivity of various design variables of staggered wall structures on the seismic response of model structures. Nonlinear static pushover analysis is carried out first to obtain ultimate strength and collapse mechanism of the model structure. Sensitivity analyses of structural members such as staggered walls, columns, and coupling beams are carried out using the tornado diagram method and the first-order second moment method considering the probabilistic distribution of design variables such as ultimate strength of concrete, yield stress of reinforcing steel, and damping ratio. According to analysis results, it is observed that, when the seismic load is relatively small, the yield stress of re-bars in the coupling beams turns out to be the most sensitive factor affecting the seismic responses. As the intensity of seismic load increases the strength of concrete becomes the most important factor. The strength of staggered walls does not affect the seismic response significantly and the damping ratio turns out to be important regardless of the intensity of seismic load.
