Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to develop a conceptual design of automated PHC pile head cutting machine that improves the conventional head cutting work in safety, quality, and productivity. For this, the following research works are conducted sequentially; 1)literature review and field study, 2)deduction of the main factors for conceptual design, 3)selection of element technology, 4)deduction of work process and conceptual design. As a result, optical sensing method, diamond wire saw cutting method, and grapple handling method are selected as core technologies. Furthermore, a conceptual design and working process of an automated PHC pile head cutting machine are developed based on the core technologies. The developed conceptual design will be applied not only in residential projects but also in other projects such as office, public office projects that PHC pile is used in the foundation work. It is expected that the application range and impact on the construction industry will be enormous due to the increasing trend of PHC pile size and the market.
