A Study on Technology Trends in UAM’s BMS through Patent Analysis

특허 분석을 통한 도심항공모빌리티(UAM)의 배터리 관리 시스템(BMS) 기술 동향 연구

Abstract

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is gaining significant attention as a futuristic mode of transportation. The Battery Management System (BMS) of UAM is a key element for its commercialization, with rapid technological advancements being made to optimize power efficiency, safety, and battery lifespan. In this study, we utilized the WIPS ON patent information search service database to analyze published and registered patents from Korea, the United States, Japan, and Europe. The analyzed patents were classified into two categories: high-performance UAM battery development and battery BMS and monitoring systems. We conducted a patent technology trend analysis for UAM battery BMS based on these classifications. Through this analysis, we proposed the future R&D direction for UAM as a futuristic mode of transportation.

도심항공모빌리티(UAM)는 미래형 교통수단으로서 많은 관심을 받고 있으며, 도심항공모빌리티의 배터리 관리시스템(BMS)은 도심항공모빌리티의 상용화를 위한 핵심 요소로, 전력효율성, 안전성, 배터리 수명 등을 최적화하기 위한 기술 개발이 빠르게 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 WIPS ON 특허정보검색서비스 DB를 활용하여, 한국, 미국, 일본 및 유럽의 공개/등록 특허를 분석 대상으로 정하였으며, 분석 대상 특허에 대한 기술 분류를 고성능 UAM 배터리 개발과 배터리 BMS 및 모니터링 시스템의 두 가지로 분류하여 UAM 배터리 BMS의 특허 기술 동향 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 향후 미래형 교통수단으로서 UAM의 R&D 방향성을 제시하였다.
