Abstract

This study deals with the concept of regenerative architecture beyond simple functional improvement because the number of old buildings in need of social interest and practical improvement is increasing. Instead of focusing only on the use of new spaces, we intend to look at regenerative architecture from the past, present, and future from a diachronic perspective. Accordingly, it aims to present the design direction of the regenerative building through the essential concept and characteristic of the regenerative architecture and the concept of time. Therefore, after examining the concept of regenerative architecture based on previous studies, the concept of time is established as accumulation, continuity, and flow. In addition, the relationship between regenerative architecture and time is organized through the keywords of trace, overlap, and change, and a framework for case analysis is constructed. Based on regenerative buildings at home and abroad, the design is analyzed through the concept of time and the concept and characteristics of regenerative architecture are identified. In addition, the concept of time and space is fused to establish a perspective and design direction for looking at regenerative architecture.
