A Study on the regulation of Organizations Related to Korean Medicine Doctors in Busan in the 1950s - focusing Jegyujeongjip of The Busan Korean Medicine Association

1950년대 부산의 한의사 유관 단체 규약에 대한 연구 - 부산시한의사회 소장 『제규정집』을 중심으로

Through this study, Jegyujeongjip (Collection of Various Regulations), a compilation of records from the Busan Korean Medicine Association, was examined. This material brings together documents produced by the Busan Korean Medicine Association and related organizations from the 1950s to the 1970s. Busan played a crucial role as the temporary capital during the Korean War, a period in which the institutional framework of traditional Korean medicine was being established. Given that materials related to Korean medicine organizations from the 1950s are scarce today, and considering the historical significance of Busan at that time, the records contained in Jegyujeongjip are particularly valuable. An analysis of these materials reveals several key findings. First, the regulations of the Busan Korean Medicine Association branch appear to have significantly influenced the statutes of early Korean medicine organizations. As the first regional branch, the Busan association served as an important foundation for the formation of the central association of Korean medicine doctors. Second, one of the most important tasks of the branch in the 1950s was the regulation of unlicensed practitioners. This issue was consistently addressed as the primary agenda item in regular meetings. Third, a separate organization, Hanuigeomhyeophoe (Council for Eligible Candidates for the Korean Medicine Doctor Examination), existed for individuals qualified to take the national licensing examination. This organization supported examination preparation and published a monthly magazine, among other activities. Finally, Korean medicine doctors and medicinal herb dealers in the Busan area jointly operated an organization known as the Busan-Yakwoo Association. Through this organization, they fostered mutual relationships while also exercising political influence in matters related to Korean medicine. Overall, Jegyujeongjip provides valuable information on organizations related to traditional Korean medicine in the Busan area during the 1950s, making it an important resource for the study of modern Korean medical history. In particular, it includes materials extending beyond the central and branch associations, offering insights into organizations that would otherwise have remained unknown.
