In this study, the thermal characteristics of ground heat exchangers (GHXs) installed on Jeju Island were investigated. A ground heat exchanger was installed in Sinchon-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, and the heat capacity, mean circulating water temperature, and differential pressure changes were examined based on the input heat amount and circulating water flow rate. As a result of the analysis, the ground temperature of the ground heat exchanger was measured to be 16.3℃. The heat capacity was calculated to be 85.8 kW (cooling) and 60.8 kW (heating), while the design capacity of the heat pump unit was determined to be 69.6 kW (cooling) and 84.0 kW (heating). Regarding the characteristics according to changes in the circulating water flow rate, as the flow rate increased from 140 L/min to 260 L/min, the mean circulating water temperature decreased from 29.2℃ to 28.3℃, whereas the differential pressure of the ground heat exchanger increased from 50 kPa to 275 kPa. The differential pressure of the ground heat exchanger varied depending on the shape of the heat exchanger and the length of the circulating water line.
