Influence of Inclusion of Salicornia Biomass in Diets for Rams on Digestion and Mineral Balance

  • A metabolism trial was conducted with 28 Najdi rams allocated into seven dietary groups to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of Salicornia bigelovii Torr biomass on nutrient digestibility, rumina I fluid metabolites and nitrogen and mineral balances. Either the stems (ST) or spikes (SP) of this seawater-irrigated halophyte were incorporated into complete diets at rates of 0, 10, 20 and 30% levels, replacing equal amounts of rhodesgrass hay in a ground mixed control diet. Digestibility of DM, OM, EE, NFE and fecal and urinary nitrogen were not affected by increased level of ST in the diet. As level of ST increased from 0 to 20% in the diets, CP digestibility and nitrogen retention approached their maximum (p<0.01), whereas CF digestibility reached its minimum (p<0.01). On the other hand, except for EE, digestion of all nutrients and nitrogen retention were linearly depressed (p<0.01) as SP increased in the diets from 10 to 30% level. Concentration of ammonia-N, total VFA and pH values in the rumen fluid were lower (p<0.01) with the ST- or SP-fed diets than with the control diet. Increasing level of ST or SP in the diet was associated with an increase (p<0.01) in the proportion of acetate and a decline (p<0.01) in molar percentage of propionate in the ruminal fluid. Sodium absorption increased (p<0.01) with increased ST and SP in the diets up to the 10 and 20% level, respectively, followed by constant absorption values up to the 30% level. When the level of ST in the diet gradually increased to 30%, a concomitant increased (p<0:01) in Ca and P absorption were obvious; whereas, increased level of SP in the diets from 0 to 30% resulted in noticeable (p<0.01) depression in Ca and P apparent absorption.

저온배양에 따른 Lactobacillus acidophilus CT 01의 저장 및 건조에 대한 저항성 (Effect of Suboptimal Temperature Incubation on the Resistance of Lactobacillus acidophilus CT 01 to Storage and Drying)

  • 본 연구는 이유 전 자돈의 분변으로부터 분리·동정한 젖산균의 저온 배양에 따른 기초지식을 확보하고 이를 생균제 생산에 적용함으로써 제품내 젖산균의 생존력을 증대시키기 위해 실시하였다. 이유 전 자돈의 분변으로부터 분리·동정한 젖산균은 Lactobacillus acidophilus 1로 판명되었으며, 이를 L. acidophilus CT 01이라 명명하였다. 48시간 동안 저온 배양한 L. acidophilus CT 01은 배양온도가 22℃일 때 생장속도가 가장 느리게 나타났으나 배양 12시간 이후부터 생균수가 급격히 증가하기 시작하여 배양 36시간에 1.3×10/sup 9/ CFU/mL로 최대 생균수를 나타냈다. L. acidophilus CT 01을 저온 배양하여 12일간 4℃와 20℃에 저장한 결과 4℃에 저장한 경우 저온 배양한 처리구의 생존률이 90.30와 90.67%로 대조구(85.81%) 보다 높은 생존률을 나타냈으며(p<0.01), 20℃ 저장시 28℃에서 24시간 저온 배양한 처리구에서 가장 높은 생존률(82.67%)을 나타냈다(p<0.01). L. acidophilus CT 01의 냉동 내성은 저온 배양한 처리구가 대조구보다 생존률이 95.73와 97.34%로 높게 나타났다(p<0.01). L. acidophilus CT 01을 60℃에서 15분과 30분 동안 열처리하여 열저항성을 시험한 결과 22℃에서 저온 배양한 처리구의 생존률이 0.203와 0.108%로 대조구에 비해 높게 나타났다(p<0.01). L. acidophilus CT 01을 저온 배양하여 부형제에 30% 접종하고 50℃에서 12시간 건조하여 생존률을 조사한 결과 저온 배양한 처리구가 가장 높은 생존률을 나타냈다

Characterization of an Amylase-sensitive Bacteriocin DF01 Produced by Lactobacillus brevis DF01 Isolated from Dongchimi, Korean Fermented Vegetable

  • A DF01 strain that inhibits tyramine-producing Lactobacillus curvatus KFRI 166 was isolated from Dongchimi, a traditional Korean fermented vegetable, and identified as Lactobacillus brevis by biochemical analysis and reverse transcriptase sequencing of 16S rRNA. The antimicrobial compound produced by L. brevis DF01 was secreted at a maximum level of 640 AU/mL in late exponential phase in MRS broth, and its activity remained constant during stationary phase. The activity of bacteriocin DF01 was totally inactivated by $\alpha$-chymotrypsin, pronase E, proteinase K, trypsin, and $\alpha$-amylase, but not by catalase, which indicates the compound was glycoprotein in nature. The activity was not affected by pH changes ranging from 2 to 12 or heat treatment (60, 80, and $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min), but was reduced after autoclaving. Bacteriocin DF01 had bacteriolytic activity and a molecular weight of approximately 8.2 kDa, as shown by tricine-SDS-PAGE analysis. Therefore, bacteriocin DF01 can be used in the manufacture of fermented meat products due to its inhibition of tyramine-producing L. curvatus and non-inhibition of L. sake, which is used as a starter culture for meat fermentation.

Accurate Measurements of the Unloaded Q of a Dielectric-loaded High-Q $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode Cavity Resonator with HTS Endplates

  • Methods for mode identification and accurate measurements of the unloaded Q ($Q_0$) of a dielectric-loaded $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode cavity resonator with HTS endplates are proposed. A resonator with a sapphire rod and $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(YBCO) endplates was prepared and its microwave properties were studied at temperatures above 30 K. The $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode $Q_0$ of the resonator, designed to work as a tunable resonator with variations in the gap distance (s) between the sapphire rod and the top YBCO, was more than 1000000 at s = 0 mm and at 30 K with the resonant frequency of 19.56 GHz. The $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode $Q_0$ decreases as s increases for s < 2 mm until mode couplings between the $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode and other modes appeared at s = 2 mm. Significant dependence of the $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode $Q_0$ on the input and output coupling constants was also observed. Applications of the open-ended $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode cavity resonator for a tunable resonator with a very high Q as well as a characterization tool for the surface resistance measurements of HTS films are described.

  • It is the purpose to investigate the physiological toxity and mutagenicity by heavy metal compounds such as potasium dichromate, sodium arsenite and selenium dioxide on the development of Drosophila melanogaster. These chemical compounds were highly toxic at every developmental stage of Drosophila. The relative values of fecundity, viability and developmental time obtained on food media containing 5 different levels of potasium dichromate (500, 600, 700, 800, and 900 ppm), also 5 different levels of sodium arsenite and selenium dioxide (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 ppm). Resulting in the relative values of fecundity and viability generally decreased, on the contrary developmental time generally reduced as the concentration of chemicals in the food increased. A significant reduction in the fecundity was observed between 800 and 900 ppm (p<0. 01) on the potasium dichromate media, between 15 and 20 ppm (p<0. 05) on the sodium arsenite media, between 20 and 25 ppm (p<0. 02) on the selenium dioxide media. A significant reduction in the viability was observed between 700 and 800 ppm (p<0. 01) on the potasium dioxide media, between 25 and 30 ppm (p<0. 01) on the sodium arsenite media, between 20 and 25 ppm (p<0. 01) on the selenium dioxide media. The impact of Computer Game Addiction on Communication capabilities

  • This study was a cross-sectional descriptive research that investigate the level of addiction and analyzed the impact of computer game addiction from 20 to 30 years old on communication capabilities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of game addiction according to general characteristics and to confirm the effect of computer game addiction on communication ability. There were a total of 220 participants in the study. This survey for this study was a self-reporting questionnaire, research tools for this study were developed by Lee (2000) using game addiction and Communication ability developed by Frits et al., (1999). Data analysis was analyzed with frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and Regression using SPSS 18.0. As a result of analysis, the difference between game addiction and communication ability by gender was appeared to be different under statistical significance levels: game addiction (t=-.9.2, p<0.01), subcomponents of communication ability, concentration (t=7.20, p<0.01), understanding (t=6.13, p<0.01), response (t=6.22, p<0.01), memory (t=2.88, p<0.05). The highest level of game addiction was appeared between 28 and 30 years old under statistical significance (p<0.01). Finally computer game addiction affects understanding, a subcomponent of communication capabilities.

대구지역 요양병원 입원노인의 식품선호도 및 영양소 섭취 실태 조사 (Survey of the Food Preferences and Nutrient Intakes of Elderly People Hospitalized in a Nursing Hospital in Daegu)

  • The number of elderly in care facilities is increasing in parallel with a rapid increase in the elderly population in Korea. We analyzed the meal satisfaction ratings, food preferences, and nutritional intakes of 74 patients aged ≥65 years living in a nursing hospital in Daegu. Food preferences were high for cooked rice, rice gruel, meat soup, soybean paste stew, beef, frozen pollack, squid, egg, spinach, sea mustard, cabbage kimchi, apple, peanut, drinking yogurt, pickled perilla leaves, and salted squid. Preferences for duck (P<0.01) and vegetable (P<0.01) cooking method were significantly different for men and women, and preference for soybean paste stew increased with age (P<0.05). Regarding nutrient intakes, men had higher energy (P<0.01), carbohydrates (P<0.05), and zinc (P<0.05) intakes than women, while women had higher vitamin C (P<0.05) intake than men. Furthermore, energy (P<0.001), carbohydrates (P<0.001), protein (P<0.05), dietary fiber (P<0.01), vitamin B6 (P<0.01), phosphorus (P<0.05), and zinc (P<0.001) intakes significantly decreased with age. Men had a significantly higher nutrient adequacy ratios (NARs) for carbohydrates (P<0.05) and cal- cium (P<0.01) than women, while women had a significantly higher NARs for protein (P<0.05), vitamin A (P<0.01), vitamin C (P<0.05), thiamine (P<0.01), riboflavin (P<0.001), iron (P<0.001), and zinc (P<0.01). Mean adequacy ratios were 0.69 for men and 0.75 for women. In particular, NARs for carbohydrates (P<0.01), vitamin B6 (P<0.01), and calcium (P<0.05) decreased significantly with age. In summary, the study shows that supplementing vitamin C, vitamin B6, calcium, and iron, reducing sodium, and providing meals that reflect preferences will improve the nutritional statuses of elderly residents in a nursing hospital.

추출용매에 따른 이슬송이버섯(Lentinula edodes GNA01) 추출물의 항산화 활성 (Effect of Extraction Solvent on the Antioxidant Activity of Lentinula edodes GNA01 Extract)

  • Antioxidant activities of 80% methanol, water, and 70% ethanol extracts of Lentinula edodes GNA01 were compared and estimated. The yield of Lentinula edodes GNA01 was identified to be in the following order: water>70% ethanol>80% methanol, but there was no significant difference between 80% methanol and 70% ethanol extracts. The highest total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) were found in water extract, and TPC of 80% methanol extract was higher than that of 70% ethanol extract and TFC of 70% ethanol extract was higher than that of 80% methanol extract. Water extract exhibited the strongest DPPH, ABTS radicals, and nitrite scavenging activities, $Fe^{2+}$ chelating ability, and FRAP among the three extracts. In addition, antioxidant activity of 80% methanol extract was higher than that of 70% ethanol extract in most of the experiments. As a result, antioxidant activity of Lentinula edodes GNA01 showed a difference according to extraction solvent and concentration; nevertheless, water extract exhibiting high polarity had the strongest antioxidant effect. Consequently, water extract from Lentinula edodes GNA01 is anticipated to be useful for the development of a high value-added functional product.

부산 거주 20대·30대 직장인의 편의점 편의식 이용 및 식품영양표시 확인 정도 (Study on Consumption Patterns and Degree of Checking Food-Nutrition Labeling of Convenience Foods at Convenience Stores by Young Adult Workers in Busan)

  • 본 연구는 부산거주 20~30대 직장인을 일대일 설문지 조사법을 이용하여 편의점 편의식의 이용실태와 식품영양표시에 대한 확인 정도를 통해 소비자의 건강한 식생활을 위한 영양교육의 기초자료를 제공하기 위해서 수행되었다. 편의식 이용 빈도는 일주일에 1~2회가 31.7%, 한 달에 1~2회가 29.8% 순으로 나타났고, 연령에 따른 차이에서 20대는 일주일에 3~4회와 일주일에 1~2회가 30대보다 유의적으로 높았다. 주거형태에 따른 차이에서는 자취가 자택보다 유의적으로 자주 이용하는 것으로 나타났으며, 결혼여부에 따른 차이에서 미혼이 기혼보다 이용 빈도가 유의적으로 높았다. 가장 많이 이용하는 편의점 편의식은 컵라면 79.6%, 김밥 76.4%, 라면 57.7%, 샌드위치 52.4%로 나타났다. 식품표시 확인 정도는 유통기한이 4.02/5.00점, 내용량 3.23/5.00점, 조리방법 2.99/5.00점 순이었다. 여자가 남자보다 유통기한 및 제조일자, 원산지를 확인하는 정도가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높았으며 30대가 20대보다 제조사를 확인하는 정도가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높았고, 유통기한 및 제조일자 항목에서는 20대가 30대보다 확인 정도가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높았다. 그리고 미혼이 기혼보다 유통기한 및 제조일자, 식품보관 시 주의사항을 확인하는 정도가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높게 나타났다. 영양표시 확인 정도는 열량 3.06/5.00점, 트랜스지방 2.84/5.00점, 나트륨 2.80/5.00점, 콜레스테롤 2.76/5.00점 순이었으며, 여자가 남자보다 전체 점수가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높았고 20대가 30대보다 열량, 탄수화물, 지방, 포화지방, 나트륨 확인하는 정도가 유의적(P<0.05)으로 높게 나타났다. 전문직이 자영업보다 탄수화물, 당, 지방, 포화지방, 트랜스지방, 콜레스테롤을 확인 정도가 유의적(P<0.05)으로 높았고, 칼로리는 전문직이 자영업, 판매/서비스직에 비해 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높았다. 또한 관리/사무직, 자영업, 판매/서비스직에 비해 전문직에서 식이섬유와 단백질을 확인하는 정도가 유의적(P<0.01)으로 높게 나타났다.
