  • Recently, firms which have offered a "free Internet service" to their customers, are considering a "charged Internet service" for increasing a company's profit. But they have doubts about the results, because consumers may fly away from their web-site easily and may discontinue using their services. The purpose of this study is to investigate which factors make consumers use the charged Internet services. To do this, the factors, which are ease of using the service, usefulness of the service, the reputation of the service provider, service cost, and the intention to use the service as a mediator, are analyzed. To achieve this research objective, a structural equation model was constructed and a field study method was used. The findings are summarized as follows: First, ease of using the service, usefulness of the service, and service cost have significant impacts on the charged Internet service usage through the intention to use. Especially, although service cost influences on the service usage largely, the usefulness of the service has a bigger impact on the charged Internet service usage than service cost. Second, the reputation of the service provider does not have any impact on the service usage. Third, consumers using only the free Internet service tend to hesitate about using the "charged Internet service" because they doubt its ease of use and usefulness in spite of the service cost.

As for the research method. the subjects were 88 family members of the users in the five charged recuperation facilities, which are specialized in the old and located in Seoul and Incheon. The survey research was executed from 27th July to 15th September, 2002. Then the collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS 10.0 for windows program. The research results are as follows. Firstly, in the satisfaction degree of the user's family about the daily service showed the highest satisfaction degree for the kind service of the staff to the users. In the satisfaction degree about the specialized service of the user's family, the satisfaction degree was high in bedsore prevention, periodical health care, proper medical treatment, family counsel, and adequate disease management. In the satisfaction degree about the facility and environmental service, the satisfaction degree about the surrounding environment of the facility or safety facility, and the comfort condition was high. In the satisfaction degree about the services related to the local society, it was high in the hospital and medical-related field. Secondly, in the demanded services, the demanding degree for worship, mental and spiritual nursing, hospice, funeral service, family meeting, and support for the special vehicle were not so high, but it was shown that they were generally demanded. Thirdly, it was shown that the provided services had an overall high satisfaction degree. In the service satisfaction degree according to the general characteristics of the user's family, it was recognized that there was a significant difference between the distinction of sex and local society related services. Also, there was a significant difference in the satisfaction degree between age and specialized service. Through the above research results, detailed rehabilitation programs such as linguistic treatment and working treatment should be more and more compensated in order to supplement the insufficient points of the services provided by the charged recuperation facility specialized in the old. Additionally, the correlation with the local society such as education and training for specialized human labor, close cooperation among the facilities, and positive participation in local society events are thought to be reinforced.

  • Objectives : To help develop strategies to cope with the changes arising from the rapid aging process by predicting the determining factors of intention to actual use of the charged long-term care services for elderly as perceived by the middle aged who play the major role of supports. Methods : Subjects were the parents (men 177, women 507) in their 40s of the students selected from a university of Busan city. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 4 weeks in October 2003 about the knowledge for long-term care service, the intention of actual use, and the preferences about the type of service suppliers. Data analysis was performed with frequency, chi-square test, and t-test using SPSS program (ver 10.0K), along with data mining using decision tree of Enterprise Miner V8.2 by SAS. Results : About half of the subjects (53.7%) had the actual experiences of elderly supports. Intentions to use the charged services were relatively high in home visiting nursing care service (40.1%) and long-term care facilities service (40.4%), and were influenced by previous knowledge about the services. The intentions were stronger in women, those with higher education, and those with greater income levels. Actual elderly supports were mostly (80%) done by women, and the perceived burdens for the supports were bigger in women and those of lower socioeconomic level. Desired charges were about 10,000 won for the bath service, 20,000 won for the rests services per day, and about 500,000 won for the long-term care facilities service per month. From the result of decision tree analysis, the job professionalism was the most important determining factor of intention to actual use of the services with validation as $63{\sim}71%$. Health and welfare mixed type facilities were preferred, and the most important consideration was the level of professionalism. Conclusions : Intention to actual use of the charged services was largely determined by the aspects of time and cost. Polices to increase the number of service suppliers and to decrease the burdens perceived by actual supporters were strongly recommended.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate food service satisfaction of senior citizens in three charged silver towns in Gyeonggido. Food satisfaction factors influencing the satisfaction of silver town residents' included satisfaction and word of mouth. For this study, 210 silver town residents were surveyed; however, 16 of these resident did not complete the survey. Therefore, the results of 194 survey questionnaires were analyzed. All results were conducted using the frequency, factor analysis, and regression procedure of SPSS 12.0. The determinant factors of the silver town feeding service included food service, food feeding, emotional, physical, and sensory characteristics of the senior citizens. Among these, food service, food feeding, emotional, and sensory characteristics of the respondents had a significant effect on their level of satisfaction. In addition, satisfaction of the residents was affected by word of mouth. Thus, the results of this study suggests that if the food service is well-arranged by hiring professional workers in the food service industry while considering the needs of senior citizens, feeding service can be improved. In addition, if the feeding service is focused on providing better service with more trained and educated staff members so that the clients perceive that they receive more personalized care and differentiated concern, it would be possible to enhance the relationship with customers continuously and to induce potential customers' residence in the silver town.

  • This study was conducted to develop a model of a fee schedule for nursing services.'Regardless of the demand for skilled and professional nursing service today, the Korean health insurance system does not furnish a chapter for the nursing service fee schedule. A nation-wide survey of hospital nursing service fee schedules was to provide practical and realistic data about how the variety of nursing services are being charged. From September 1990 to April 1991, data from the fee schedule used by twenty hospitals located in eight large cities which are designated large medical regions in the Korea Health Care and Patient Referral System were collected. Nursing services and the fees charged for them were analyzed. The nursing services were subjected to a secondary analysis with referrence to reports on “nursing services to be charged in Korea”. The total number of nursing services recommended by the literatures was 177 : finally 141 types of nursing services were selected by investigator as chargable nursing services. In addition, data on managerial characteristics of the hospitals were collected to discover influential variables for a nursing fee schedule model. Under the assumption that all the managerial characteristics of the hospitals influenced the fee schedule, the following model was tested : Fee of nursing services (C) = f(A₁, A₂, A₃, A₄, A/sub 5/, A/sub 6/, A/sub 7/, A/sub 8/,) When, A₁ = number of nurses A₂ = the first salary of a nurse educated in a four year A₃ = scale of nursing management division A₄ = location of the hospital A/sub 5/ = the type of hospital management (profit / non-profit) A/sub 6/ = number of hospital beds A/sub 7/ = years of hospital operation A/sub 8/ = number and kinds of clinical divisions The results showed that the model should be built as follows : C = f (A₁, A/sub 4/, A/sub 5/) Each nursing service was applied to the fee schedule with consideration for the professional level and time-taken to provide the services. Detailed fee schedules were presented in the related tables. Of the 141 kinds of nursing services, 24.8% were chargeble to the Korea Health Insurance, 32.6% of the nursing services were being paid directly by the patienty. The rest of nursing services (42.6%) were not being charged to any source. It was recommened that the Korea Health Insurance Reimbursement system should add a classification system for nursing services that can be used in the national health care program. Further study is needed about how to include 32.6% of the nursing services now being paid for directly by the patients in the health insurance system.

  • The exchangeable battery electric bus is an eco-friendly public transportation vehicle. Due to the technological limitation, however, it should repeatedly change batteries with charged ones. The unmanned battery exchangeable electric bus being studied in Korea can exchange batteries automatically by using a battery swapping system. In this paper, we propose an unmanned battery exchangeable electric bus management system. The proposed system provides two services: the bus information service and the battery change scheduling service. The bus information service is the existing traditional metropolitan area bus information systems, which inform bus passengers how long they should wait for the buses. Our second service assigns a low-battery bus, which needs to change the batteries, to the battery swapping system, which stores fully-charged batteries. To validate the proposed system, we model the system by using the DEVS formalism. The simulation result shows that the proposed system provides the services properly.
