  • Distribution of local critical temperature and current density in $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ (YBCO) coated conductors was analyzed using a Low-temperature Scanning Laser Microscopy (LTSLM). We prepared YBCO coated conductors of various bridge types to study the spatial distribution of critical temperature and current density in single and multi bridges. An LTSLM system was modified for a detailed two-dimensional scan without shifting of the sample. We observed a spatial distribution of the critical temperature from the bolometric response, which arises from a focused laser beam at the sample near the superconducting transition. Also we studied the relation between the critical temperature and the current density.

  • In this paper, a simplified approach based on critical temperature for fire resistance design of steel-concrete composite beams is proposed. The method for determining the critical temperature and fire protection of the composite beams is developed on the basis of load-bearing limit state method employed in current Chinese Technical Code for Fire safety of Steel Structure in Buildings. Parameters affecting the critical temperature of the composite beams are analysed. The results show that at a definite load level, section shape of steel beams, material properties, effective width of concrete slab and concrete property model have little influence on the critical temperature of composite beams. However, the fire duration and depth of concrete slab have significant influence on the critical temperature. The critical temperatures for commonly used composite beams, at various depth of concrete and fire duration, are given to provide a reference for engineers. The validity of the practical approach for predicting the critical temperature of the composite beams is conducted by comparing the prediction of a composite beam with the results from some fire design codes and full scale fire resistance tests on the composite beam.

  • For the fabrication of core-shell structure bimetallic lead-free solder balls, both the critical temperature ($T_{cr}$) for the phase separation of two immiscible liquid phases and the temperature coefficient of the interfacial tension between the two separated liquid phases are required. In order to obtain this information, the temperature dependence of the surface tension of 60%Bi-24%Cu-16%Sn(-REM) alloys was measured using the constrained drop method. The slope of the temperature dependence of the surface tension changed clearly at a critical temperature for the separation of two immiscible liquid phases. The critical temperature of the 60%Bi-24%Cu-16%Sn alloy was estimated to be 1097K. An addition of 0.05% Ce decreased the critical temperature to 1085K, whereas that of 0.05% La increased it to 1117K. It was found that the surface tension and its temperature coefficient of the 60%Bi-24%Cu-16%Sn alloy were slightly increased by the addition of 0.05% Ce and 0.05% La. In addition, additions of Ce and La increased the temperature coefficient of the interfacial tension.

  • Distribution of the local critical temperature and current density in YBCO coated conductors were analyzed using Low-temperature Scanning Laser and Hall Probe Microscopy (LTSLHPM). We prepared YBCO coated conductors of various bridge types to study the spatial distribution of the critical temperature and the current density in single and multi bridges. LTSLHPM system was modified for detailed linescan or two-dimensional scan both scanning laser and scanning Hall probe method simultaneously. We analyzed the local critical temperature of single and multi bridges from series of several linescans of scanning laser microscopy. We also investigated local current density and hysteresis curve of single bridge from experimental results of scanning Hall probe microscopy.

  • Sponataneous ignition characteristics for granulated activated carbon were observed by performing experiments at constant ambient temperature and varying the ambient temperature sinusoidally. In case of varying the ambient temperature sinusoidally, the amplitudes of temperature were 5$^{\circ}C$, 1$0^{\circ}C$ and 15$^{\circ}C$ respectively, and the period in each amplitude was varied at an interval of 30minutes from zero to 3hours. As the results of experiments at a constant ambient temperature, the critical spontaneous ignition temperature of the sample decreased as the sample vessel size increased. Apparent activation energy of the sample calculated from the Frank-Kamenetskii's thermal Ignition theory was 38.82[kca1/mo1] In case of varying the ambient temperature sinusoidally, the critical spontaneous ignition tempera-ture was lower than that at the constant ambient temperature, and the minimum critical spontaneous ignition temperature decreased with the amplitude of heating sinusoidal curve. At the same amplitude, the critical spontaneous ignition temperature decreased until it reached the minimum point and then in-creased as the period increased.

  • Spontaneous ignition charactenstics for fish meal were observed by performing experiments at constant ambient temperature and varying the ambient temperature sinusoidally. As the results of the experiments at a constant ambient temperature, the critical spontaneous ignition temperature of the sample for large, intermediate and small vessels was 170.5$^{\circ}C$, 177.5$^{\circ}C$ and 188.5$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The critical spontaneous ignition temperature decreased as the sample vessel size increased. Apparent activation energy of used fish meal calculated from the Frank-Kamenetskii's thermal ignition theory was 37.60Kcal/mol. In case of varying the ambient temperature sinusoidally, the amplitudes of temperature were 1$0^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 3$0^{\circ}C$ respectively with the period in each amplitude 1hr, 2hrs and 3hrs. The results showed that the critical spontaneous ignition temperatures at the varied amplitudes of temperature were lower than that at the constant anbient temperature and increased as the amplitude increased. At the same amplitude, the critical spontaneous ignition temperature increased with the period.

  • The change in the critical speed due to surface temperature of automotive disk brakes may be analyzed both theoretically as well as experimentally. Juddering of disk brakes is closely related to its critical speed. In analyzing the critical speed, if $\sigma$ is positive, Disk develops TEI(Thermo-Elastic Instability) resulting in juddering in disk brakes. And $\sigma$ is affected not only by the critical speed but also by the initial temperature of disk surface. As the initial temperature of the disk surface rises, the critical speed decreases and juddering is developed more easily. Also, when hot spots are developed by TEI, they show large temperature difference in small local range.

  • This paper examines the critical air temperature at which frost formation does not occur on a cold plate in order to improve the efficiency of a heat pump. The critical air temperature on test points is obtained from numerical analysis and a correlation of the critical air temperature is derived as a function of frosting factors (air absolute humidity, air velocity, and cold plate temperature) by least square method. Experiments are carried out to verify the correlation proposed in this study, and the prediction obtained with the correlation agrees well with the experimental data. Based on the correlation, we propose the non-frosting regions according to frosting factors.

  • In this paper, it was studied how the critical speed which could occur hot judder due to disk temperature. Through the dynamometer experiment, we measured the critical velocity and surface temperature when the hot judder occur on the disk break. Also with the critical velocity theory equation and the temperature change graph of factors which used in the equation, we was induced experiment equation including theory equation and experiment values. And it has compared with the method which approach as linea. From this, we predicted the change of critical speed which could occur hot judder due to disk temperature. In addition, critical speed graph has compared with actual driving speed and disc temperature at a vehicle test. Therefore it was estimate to possibility of arising hot judder.
