  • In this paper, we consider a multiple watermarking for image copyright protection. Multiple watermarking can be defined that two or more watermarks are inserted into the same content. Multiple watermarking using spread spectrum technique is able to extract the correct watermarks from the watermarked content when the orthogonality among keys should be guaranteed only. To keep the orthogonal property between keys, we perform the process of Gram-Schmidt on the random sequences. The orthogonalized sequences are used as keys to embed the watermarks. The proposed method can not only extract correctly the embedded watermarks but also show the robustness against various attacks such as Gaussian noise addition, histogram equalization, gamma correlation, sharpening and brightness/contrast adjustment.

  • Residual crosstalk has been considered as a major drawback of conventional time-reversal processing in the case of simultaneous multiple focusing. In this paper, the Gram-Schmidt process is applied to time-reversal processing to mitigate crosstalk in ocean waveguides for multiple probe sources. Experimental data-based numerical simulations confirm that nulls can be placed at multiple locations, and it is shown that different signals can be simultaneously focused at different probe source locations, ensuring distortionless responses in terms of active time-reversal processing. This focusing property is also shown to be much less affected by a reduction in the number of receivers than the adaptive time-reversal mirror method. The proposed method is shown to be effective in eliminating crosstalk in passive multi-input multi-output communications using sea-going data.

  • In this paper, we propose an equivalent Wiener-Hopf equation. The proposed algorithm can obtain the weight vector of a TDL(tapped-delay-line) filter and the error simultaneously if the inputs are orthogonal to each other. The equivalent Wiener-Hopf equation was analyzed theoretically based on the MMSE(minimum mean square error) method. The results present that the proposed algorithm is equivalent to original Wiener-Hopf equation. In conclusion, our method can find the coefficient of the TDL (tapped-delay-line) filter where a lattice filter is used, and also when the process of Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization is used. Furthermore, a new cost function is suggested which may facilitate research in the adaptive signal processing area.

  • The surface EMG signal detected from voluntarily activated muscles can be used as a control signal for functional electrical stimulation. To use the voluntary EMG signal, it is necessary to eliminate the muscle response evoked by the electrical stimulation and enable to process the algorithm in real time. In this paper, we propose the Gram-Schmidt(GS) algorithm and implement it in FPGA(field programmable gate array). GS algorithm is efficient to eliminate periodic signals like muscle response, and is more stable and suitable to FPGA implementations than the conventional least-square approach, due to the systolic array structure.

  • Traditional adaptive noise cancelling methods rely their performance on various interfering parameters, such as convergence speed, tracking ability, numerical stability, relative frequency characteristics between target and reverberation signals, and activity of the target. In this paper, an adaptive noise cancelling method is suggested, which Provides a successful tradeoff mon these factors. It is designed to work on the transform domain, adopts the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process, and is implemented by the escalator algorithm. The transform domain approach supports a tradeoff between the convergence speed and numerical cost. The proposed method is verified by applying a real-data collected in the shallow waters off the east coasts of korea. It is shown that it has a good reverberation-rejection capability even for the target signal with adjacent frequency components to those of the reverberation, and its performance is invariant for the activity of the target.

  • As the infrastructures and populations are the condensed in the mega city, urban flood management becomes very important due to the severe loss of lives and properties. For the more accurate calculation of runoff from the urban catchment, hourly or even minute rainfall data have been utilized. However, the time steps of the measured or forecasted data under climate change scenarios are longer than hourly, which causes the difficulty on the application. In this study, daily rainfall data was disaggregated into hourly using the stochastic method. Based on the historical hourly precipitation data, Gram Schmidt orthonormalization process and K-Nearest Neighbor Resampling (KNNR) method were applied to disaggregate daily precipitation into hourly. This method was originally developed to disaggregate yearly runoff data into monthly. Precipitation data has smaller probability density than runoff data, therefore, rainfall patterns considering the previous and next days were proposed as 7 different types. Disaggregated rainfall was resampled from the only same rainfall patterns to improve applicability. The proposed method was applied rainfall data observed at Seoul weather station where has 52 years hourly rainfall data and the disaggregated hourly data were compared to the measured data. The proposed method might be applied to disaggregate the climate change scenarios.

The equivalent Wiener-Hopf equation was analyzed theoretically based on the MMSE(minimum mean square error) method. The new algorithm was applied into the identification of an unknown system for evaluating the performance of the proposed method. We compared the Wiener-Hopf solution with the equivalent Wiener-Hopf solution. The simulation results were similar to those obtained in the theoretical analysis. In conclusion, our method can find the coefficient of the TDL (tapped-delay-line) filter where a lattice filter is used, and also when the process of Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization is used. • In this paper, the characteristic of intrinsic mode function(IMF) and its orthogonalization of ensemble empirical mode decomposition(EEMD), which is often used in the analysis of the non-linear or non-stationary signal, has been studied. In the decomposition process, the orthogonal IMF of EEMD was obtained by applying the Gram-Schmidt(G-S) orthogonalization method, and was compared with the IMF of orthogonal EMD(OEMD). Two signals for comparison analysis are adopted as the analytical test function and El Centro seismic wave. These target signals were compared by calculating the index of orthogonality(IO) and the spectral energy of the IMF. As a result of the analysis, an IMF with a high IO was obtained by GSO method, and the orthogonal EEMD using white noise was decomposed into orthogonal IMF with energy closer to the original signal than conventional OEMD.
