  • This study was conducted to survey pathogens of canine coronavirus (CCV), canine distemper virus (CDV), canine influenza virus (CIV), canine parvovirus (CPV), severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV), Dirofilaria (D.) immitis, Giardia and antibodies against Anaplasma (A.) phagocytophilum, Borrelia (B.) burgdorferi, Brucella (B.) canis and Ehrlichia (E.) canis among stray dogs in Gyeonggi province. We collected 271 feces, 291 bloods, 311 nasal and ocular swab samples from 311 of dogs in the Gyeonggi province assistance dogs sharing center from January to December, 2019. Among canine infectious disease pathogens, Giardia was highly detected in 46/271 (17.0%) samples. Subsequently, CCV 10.3% (28/271), D. immitis 8.2% (24/291), CPV 4.1% (11/271), CDV 1.0% (3/311), A. phagocytophilum (antibody) 0.3% (1/291), E. canis (antibody) 0.3% (1/291) were detected. Based on the results, this study is expected to provide a useful reference for disease control and management of stray dogs.

  • This study was performed to determine the seroprevalence of reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) infection in layer chickens in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Serum samples were collected from 820 layer chickens on 56 flocks in Gyeonggi province. The samples were tested for specific antibodies against REV using commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The seroprevalence of REV antibodies in the flocks was 62.50% (95% Confidence interval (CI) 49.33~74.40) and the overall seroprevalence in individual chickens was 39.27% (95% CI 35.97~42.65). The results of the present survey indicate that REV infection is prevalent in layer chickens in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Therefore, effective measures should be taken to prevent and control REV of layer chickens in this province.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum infection in dairy cattle of northern Gyeonggi province in Korea. A total of 716 dairy cattle from 14 dairy farms were tested for the presence of antibodies against N. caninum using a commercial ELISA test kit. Herd and individual seroprevalences of N. caninum were 92.8% (13/14) and 23.1% (166/716), respectively. The seroprevalence of dairy cattle according to age was the highest at 49~72 months (27.4%), but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). No significant relationship between N. caninum seropositivity with the herd size of the dairy farms was found (P>0.05). The results indicate that N. caninum infection spreads widely in dairy farms of northern Gyeonggi province in Korea.

  • This study aims at providing basic policy materials to build a basis for supplying and creating urban parks balanced across Gyeonggi province and improving the quality of life of residents through, an extensive analysis of all city parks in cities/counties in Gyeonggi province. The study result showed that first, the number of parks is only 40% of the adequate number and, thus, accessibility of Gyeonggi province residents to parks in neighborhoods is significantly low. Second, a proportion of park types in children's park, neighborhood park, urban nature park is 67% : 24% : 2%, which is adequate in Gyeonggi province as a whole. Third, as for the area of parks per resident, the area of designated park is $17.7m^2$/person, which is over three times of legal requirement in urban planning area ($6m^2$/person). However, created park area is only $5.6m^2$/person, which fails to meet the legal requirement. Fourth, when park area of each city was compared, the areas varied significantly across cities. The Gyeonggi provincial government needs to secure funds aggressively and accelerate setting up and expanding facilities at designated parks located within the current urban areas. The findings from this study should be used as important materials when developing supply & demand policies for urban parks in Gyeonggi province. The study implicates that independent park policies and management by each city/county as well as the establishment and management of a comprehensive park policy at a provincial level is significantly important.
