Influence of Isobutyric Acid Supplementation on Nutrient Intake, Its Utilization, Blood Metabolites and Growth Performance of Crossbred Calves Fed Wheat Straw Based Low Protein Diets

  • The effects of dietary supplementation with the sodium salt of isobutyric acid in a low protein (10% CP) wheat straw based diet on nutrient utilization, blood metabolites and growth performance were studied with male crossbred calves. The calves were divided into two equal groups of 6 each. The animals of the control group were fed a basal diet consisting of wheat straw, concentrate mixture and green oat fodder in 40:40:20 proportion whereas BCFA supplemented group received the basal diet+isobutyric acid at 0.75 percent of basal diet. The duration of study was 120 days. The feed intake between experimental groups did not differ significantly and the average total DMI (% BW) was 1.99 and $1.95kg\;day^{-1}$ in control and BCFA supplemented diets. The dietary supplementation of BCFA improved (p<0.01) the DM, OM, CP (p<0.05), NDF and cellulose digestibilities by 8.50, 9.01, 5.39, 17.78 and 18.44 per cent over those fed control diet. The total N retention on BCFA supplementation was improved (p<0.01) due to the decreased (p<0.05) faecal N excretion. The BCFA supplementation did not alter the blood circulatory levels of glucose, total protein, albumin, urea N and amino acids. However after 120 days of experimental feeding a significant (p<0.05) increase in the concentrations of non-esterified fatty acid was observed in control group. The DCP intake and the DCP content of experimental diets was similar in both groups. However, the TDN content of BCFA supplemented diet was significantly (p<0.01) higher (64.35%) than that of control (59.60%). The total live weight gain in BCFA supplemented diet increased by 15.94% over control. The average daily gain and efficiency of feed conversion were also improved in BCFA fed calves by 13.38 and 26.71% respectively, compared to control. It is concluded that dietary supplementation with isobutyric acid improved the digestibility of nutrients and growth performance of calves.

  • 주게원자가 ONNO인 새로운 네자리 리간드인 ethylenediamine-N,N'-di-${\alpha}$-isobutyric acid(eddib)를 합성하고 이 리간드의 디클로로 코발트(III)착물을 공기산화법에 의하여 합성하였다. Eddib리간드가 코발트(III)이온에 배위될 때 S-cis이성체만이 선택적으로 만들어짐이 관찰되었는데 이것은 ring strain과 steric hinderance 때문이다. 그리고 eddib의 디클로로 코발트 (III)착물을 용액중에서 $[Co(eddib)L]^{n+}$ $(L = Cl{\cdot}(H_2O),\;CO_3^{2-},\;(H_2O)_2)$로 치환반응을 시켰을 때 이들의 흡수 스펙트럼의 흡수띠 위치가 분광학적계열과 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 합성된 착물의 구조는 원소분석, 적외선 흡광분석법, 핵자기 공명 및 전자흡수 스펙트럼으로 확인하였다.

Effect of Dietary Supplementation of Sodium Salt of Isobutyric Acid on Ruminal Fermentation and Nutrient Utilization in a Wheat Straw Based Low Protein Diet Fed to Crossbred Cattle

  • The effect of dietary supplementation of sodium salt of isobutyric acid in low protein (10% CP) wheat straw based diet on nutrient utilization and rumen fermentation was studied in ruminally fistulated male crossbred cattle. The study included a 7 day metabolism and a 3 day rumen fermentation trials. The cattle were distributed into two equal groups of 4 each. The animals of control group were fed a basal diet consisting of wheat straw, concentrate mixture and green maize fodder in 40:40:20 proportion whereas branched chain volatile fatty acid (BCFA) supplemented group received a basal diet + isobutyric acid at 0.75 percent of basal diet. The duration of study was 36 days. The feed intake between experimental groups did not differ significantly and the average total DMI (% BW) was 2.01 and $2.28kg\;day^{-1}$ in control and BCFA supplemented diets. The dietary supplementation of BCFA improved (p<0.05) the DM, OM, NDF and cellulose digestibility by 4.46, 6.63, 10.57 and 11.31 per cent over those fed control diet. The total N retention on BCFA supplementation was improved (p<0.01) due to decreased (p<0.05) urinary N excretion. The concentrations of ruminal total N was 37.07 and $34.77mg\;100ml^{-1}$ in control and BCFA fed groups, respectively. Dietary supplementation BCFA significantly (p<0.01) reduced the ruminal ammonia N concentration as compared to control and the mean values ($mg\;100ml^{-1}$) were 13.18 and 9.42 in control and BCFA fed groups. The total VFA concentration was higher (p<0.01) in BCFA supplemented group (101.14 mM) than the control (93.05 mM). Among the VFAs, the molar proportion of acetate was higher (p<0.01) in BCFA supplemented group (71.07 mM) as compared to control (64.98 mM). However, the concentration of propionate and butyrate remained unchanged. Amino acids composition of bacterial hydrolysates was similar in both the groups. Ruminal outflow rate of liquid digesta was higher (p<0.01) in BCFA fed group ($67.56l\;day^{-1}$) than control ($52.73l\;day^{-1}$). It is concluded that the dietary supplementation of Na-salt of isobutyric acid in low protein diet improved the nutrient utilization and ruminal fermentation characteristics.

STM Tip Catalyzed Adsorption of Thiol Molecules and Functional Group-Selective Adsorption of a Bi-Functional Molecule Using This Catalysis

  • In this study, in contrast with cases in which Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) tip-induced reactions were instigated by the tunneling electrons, the local electric field, or the mechanical force between a tip and a surface, we found that the tungsten oxide (WO3) covered tungsten (W) tip of a STM acted as a chemical catalyst for the S-H dissociative adsorption of phenylthiol and 1-octanethiol onto a Ge(100) surface. By varying the distance between the tip and the surface, the degree of the tip-catalyzed adsorption could be controlled. We have found that the thiol head-group is the critical functional group for this catalysis and the catalytic material is the WO3 layer of the tip. After removing the WO3 layer by field emission treatment, the catalytic activity of the tip has been lost. 3-mercapto isobutyric acid is a chiral bi-functional molecule which has two functional groups, carboxylic acid group and thiol group, at each end. 3-Mercapto Isobutyric Acid adsorbs at Ge(100) surface only through carboxylic acid group at room temperature and this adsorption was enhanced by the tunneling electrons between a STM tip and the surface. Using this enhancement, it is possible to make thiol group-terminated surface where we desire. On the other hand, surprisingly, the WO3 covered W tip of STM was found to act as a chemical catalyst to catalyze the adsorption of 3-mercapto isobutyric acid through thiol group at Ge(100) surface. Using this catalysis, it is possible to make carboxylic acid group-terminated surface where we want. This functional group-selective adsorption of bi-functional molecule using the catalysis may be used in positive lithographic methods to produce semiconductor substrate which is terminated by desired functional groups.

간장에서 분리한 Zygosaccharomyces rouxii의 휘발성 유기산 생성에 미치는 식염농도의 영향 (The Effect of Salt Concentrations on the Production of Volatile Organic Acids by Zygosaccharomyces rouxii, a Soy Sauce Yeast)

  • By using a synthetic medium simulated on the amino acid composition of soybeam, the effect of salt concentrations on the production of volatile organic acid by the strains of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii So-3101, a soy sauce yeast, was studied at the concentrations of 12.5, 18.0, 22.0 and 28.5% NaCl. The growth, consumption of glucose, and production of alcohol, total acid and volatile organic acid, showed the highest values at a concentration of 12.5% NaCl, and those values were decreased with an increase in the salt concentration. The ratio of volatile organic acid to total organic acid was remained at approximately the same level within the range of salt concentrations between 12.5~22.0%, whereas the ratio was decreased at a salt concentration of 28.5%. After incubation for 16 days, 8 volatile organic acids, i.e. acetic, propionic, n-butyric, isobutyric, isovaleric, isocaproic, n-caproic, and heptanoic acids, were detected by gas chromatography. Among the volatile organic acids, acetic acid was produced in the appreciable amiunt and its ratio to the other volatile acids was increased with an increase in the salt concentration.A small amount of isocaproic, propionic, isobutyric and isovaleric acids were produced, and n-caproic, n-butyric and heptanoic acids were detected only at the lower salt concentration.

  • Synthesis of dichloro cobalt (Ⅲ) complexes of a flexible $N_2O_2-type$ tetradentate ligand, ethylenediamene-N,N'-di-${\alpha}$-isobutyric acid (eddib), has yielded two geometrical isomers, s-cis-$(Co(eddib)Cl_2)- and uns-cis-(Co(eddib)Cl_2)-.$ A series of substitution reactions, $(Co(eddib)Cl_2)^- {\to} (CO(eddib)Cl H_2O) {\to} (Co(eddib)CO_3)^- {\to} (Co(eddib(H_2O)_2)^+$ have been run for each of the two geometrical isomers. The reaction between the s-cis-(Co(eddib)Cl_2)^-$ complex and L-alanine (L-als) or S-methyl-L-cysteine (L-mcy) gave the meridional s-cis-[Co(eddib)(aa)) (aa = L-ala or L-mcy) complex. The S-methyl-L-cysteine was found to coordinate to cobalt (Ⅲ) ion via the nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms.

  • 원소의 고순도분리는 동위원소계 연구의 기초가 된다. 이 기술보고에서는 Sm-Nd 연대측정법에 중요한 원소군인 Sm과 Nd의 원소분리에 자주 이용되고 있는 HDEHP를 이용한 테플론분말(란탄-레진)법과 Sm-Nd 동위원소계 및 La-Ce 동위원소계의 연구를 위한 원소분리법인 ${\alpha}$-HIBA(${\alpha}$-Hydroxy Isobutyric acid)법의 장단점을 한국지질자원연구원(KIGAM), 기초과학지원연구원(KBSI), 극지연구소(KOPRI) 및 일본 나고야대학과 같은 각 기관별 용리곡선을 통해 비교 소개하였다. 동위원소 지구화학연구를 위한 이 고순도의 원소분리법 비교는 Sm-Nd계 및 La-Ce계 동위원소 지구화학연구자의 실험법 선택에 많은 도움을 줄 것이다.

헛개나무 잎과 과병의 화학성분 (Chemical Components in Leaf and Fruit Stalk of Hovenia dulcis Thunb.)

  • 국내에서 자생하고 있는 헛개나무 잎과 과병의 각종 화학성분을 분석한 결과 일반성분 중 잎의 경우 조단백질, 과병의 경우 총당이 높게 나타났으며, 무기성분은 잎과 과병에서 K, Ca, Mg, Na 및 Mn 순으로 나타났다. 비타민 C 함량은 잎의 경우 4.8 mg%, 과병은 3.8 mg%로 나타났으며, 유리당은 잎에서 fructose가 1.31%, 과병에서는 sucrose가 8.83%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 유기산은 잎과 과병에서 malic acid가 각각 1,715 mg%와 439.18 mg%로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 구성아미노산은 잎에서 glutamic acid가 497.99mg%, 과병에서는 proline이 751.78 mg%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 지방산은 잎의 경우 불포화지방산인 linolenicacid가 43.54%, 과병은 포화지방산인 palmitic acid가 23.15%로 높게 나타났으며, 향기성분은 잎에서 trans-geraniol이 124.36 ppm, 과병에서는 isobutyric acid가 292.67 ppm으로 가장 많이 함유되어 있었다.

쇠비름 즙액에서 얻은 항균성 지방산의 분리 및 동정 (Isolation and Identification of Antifungal Fatty Acids from the Extract of Common Purslane(Portulaca oleracea L.))

  • 오래 저장해 둔 쇠비를 즙액에서 5종의 항균성 물질이 분리되었으며 이들 물질이 isobutyric acid, butyric acid, isovaleric acid, valeric acid 그리고 caproic acid 등과 C4-C6의 저급지방산으로 동정되었다. 각각의 지방산은 실내실험에서 다소간에 배나무 검은무늬병균(Alternaria alternata Japanese pear pathotype)의 포자발아나 균사신장을 다같이 저해하였다. 포자발아에 대한 각각 지방산의 항균력은 예외없이 균사신장에 대한 그것보다 컸다. 예컨데 200PPM 이하의 농도에서 균사생장을 완전히 저해하는 항균성 지방산은 하나도 없었지만 caproic acid의 50ppm과 valeric acid의 200ppm은 포자발아를 완전히 억제하였다. 또한 생물검정의 결과에서 이들 지방산의 탄소시술의 길이가 길수록 더욱 높은 항균력을 보여주었으므로 탄소사슬의 길이가 항균력과 관계가 있는 것으로 추정되었다.

식물병원균에 대한 몇가지 저급지방산의 항균특성 (Antifungal Properties of Some Short Chain Fatty Acids against Phytopathogenic Fungi)

  • 쇠비름 즙액에서 얻은 5종의 저급지방산인 isobutyric(C-4), butyric(C-4), isovaleric(C-5), valeric (C-5), caproic(C-6) acids등이 그들 사이에 항균력의 차이는 있었지만 공시한 25종의 식물병원균의 포자발아나 균사생장에 대하여 폭넓은 항균스펙트럼을 보여주었다. 각각의 지방산의 항균력은 포자발아검정이나 균사신장검정에 있어서 공시균주에 따라 큰 차이를 보여주었다. 포자발아검정에 공시한 17종의 병원균과 균사신장검정에 공시한 16종의 병원균은 그들의 포자발아나 균사신장을 제각기 완전히 저해하는 각각의 지방산의 최저저해농도(MIC)에 따라 3군으로 나눌 수 있다. 이밖에도 이 연구의 결과에서 다음과 같은 가설을 제시할 수 있었다. 1) Caproic acid는 공시균의 균사신장보다 포자발아에 대하여 더욱 강한 독성을 보였으나 약간의 예외는 있었지만 그 밖의 지방산은 이와같은 독성을 보여주지 않았다. 2) 지방산의 사슬이 길수록 항균력도 강하다. 3) n-Butyric acid와 n-Valeric acid는 그들의 이성체보다 항균력이 강하다. 4) 각각의 지방산은 부생균의 포자발아나 균사신장에 대한 것보다 활물기생균이나 몇가지 조건적 기생균의 그것들에 대하여 더욱 강한 독성을 보여주었다.
