  • Two Fructus Jujubae & three Rhizoma Zingiberis Rencns are usually used in parts of prescriptions in oriental medicine. In "Dongeuibogam", those are prescribed as drugs. However, those are not exactly same with original books, which "Dongeuibogam" had quoted. In original books, those are sometimes mentioned just as 'Fructus Jujubae & Rhizoma Zingiberis' or different amount of them. Therefore, authors try to compare with "Dongeuibogam" and its original books to find out the reason of discordance. As a result, we could conclude that Two jujubes & three pieces of ginger are more commonly prescribed than original books and are fixed to use more conveniently and to give standard for doctor.

  • The effects of Jujubae Fructus and Licorice extracts on the main components of Sijotang Euphorbiae Kansui Radix, Daphinis Genkwa Flos, Euphonrbiae Pekinensis Radix (KWD) treatment [KWD decoction (KWDD) and KWD powder (KWDP)] related toxicities were examined in the kidney and the liver. To select more suitable extract which effectively reduce KWD-treatment related toxicities in the body, blood biochemical and histopathological changes induced by KWD were analyzed in the rats which received treament of KWD + Jujubae Fructus or KWD + Licorice. In the present study, no KWD-treatment related blood biochemical and histopathological change in the liver was detected. However, increase of tubules containing hyaline casts and atrophic tubules in the kidney was detected as the indicators of KWDD treatment related nephrotoxicity. Addition of Jujubae Fructus (KWDDJ) or Licorice (KWDDL) extracts effectively inhibited the nephrotoxcity induced by KWDD treatments. More ameliorated effects were acquired by addition of Jujubae Fructus extract (KWDDJ) than Licorice (KWDDL). In KWDP treatment, there was no significant difference in the number of tubules containing hyaline casts in all drug treated groups compared to normal or control group except for high dose of KWDP. Both of Jujubae Fructurs and Licorice reduced high dose of KWDP treatment related nephrotoxicity, and there was no significant difference between KWDPJs and KWDPLs. It is concluded that addition of Jujubae Fructus is more suitable than Licorice in reducing the nephrotoxicty of KWDD, also it is more suitable to taking Sipjotang in the form of powder than decoction.

  • This study was conducted to standardize the 'Ki-Mi' of Kye-Ji Tang in the basis of ${\ulcorner}$Treatise on Febrile Diseases${\lrcorner}$ and the results were as follows 1. The medicinal plants used are processed with hot water right after picking. 2. One seung(升) of water equals to 10cc. 3. One yang(兩) equals to 6 grams. 4. Medicinal plants are shattered to the size of beans by the process called Boo-Jeor. 5. Kye-Ji Tang, which is composed with 5 medicinal plant(Cortex Cinnamomi : 18g; Radix Paeoniae : 18g; Radix Glycyrrhizae : 12g; Rhizoma Zingiberis : 18g; Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae : 18g), is prepared by adding 490cc water to above 5 medicinal plants and boiled to 210cc. After boiling, the residue is discarded and the extract is taken orally 3 times a day as one dosage of 70cc. It is recommended that 20 minitues after taking of Kye-Ji Tang, the additional uptake of rice porridge might enhance the pharmacological effect of Kye-Ji Tang.

  • In order to convert the one ryang of Guizhi-tang into the modern weights and measures, herbs whose dose was expressed by number in Treatise on Feverile Disease of Zhongjing were measured actually. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Size of Jujubae fructus in Guizhi-tang is an average and if remove the seed, 12 Jujubae fructuses corresponds to 20g. These weights are the same as Belamcandae Rhizoma, Persicae Semen, Gleditsiae Fructus, Gardeniae Fructus and Armeniacae amarum Semen whose dose was expressed by number in Treatise on Feverile Disease of Zhongjing. If one ryang corresponds to 6.5g, 20g corresponds to three ryang. If one ryang corresponds to 15.6g, 20g corresponds to 1.3 ryang. When herbs were added in Guizhi-tang, the used weights were two more ryang. Almost unit of weights in Formulae of Zhongjing is the constantly multiplied. 2. Half sheng(升) of Pinelliae Rhizomae is 15 Pinelliae Rhizomas and corresponds to two and a half ryang. 14 Pinelliae Rhizomas are contained in 50 mL egg. 3.1 geun(斤), maximal amount of Gypsum Fibrosum and amount of one egg are the same weight supposing one ryang corresponds to 6.5g. 4. 2 ryang of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma is the 6.8 balls(碁子) of baduk and similar as 5-6 balls of baduk of Jisilchijasi-Tang. 5. General dose of Glycyrrhizae Radix is two ryang and 20mL, the size of thumb is 13g. 6. Half geun approaches the 3 flattened spoons. Consequently the presumption that one ryang in Guizhi-tang is 15.6g is wrong. One ryang is assumed as 6.5g.

  • Dermatomyositis is an inflammatory cutaneo-muscular disease of unknown etiology, characterized by symmetrical proximal muscle weakness and typical dermatologic manifestation. Henoch-Schonlein purpura is most common in children. In Korea, dermatomyositis or Henoch-Schonlein purpura associated with herbal medicine has not been reported. The subject patient is a seven year-old girl diagnosed with dermatomyositis in August 1999 and Henoch-Schonlein purpura in January, July 2001. There were symptoms of dermatomyositis such as headache, arthralgia, eruption, itching and abdominal pain. I think the herb-prescription composed or Radix astragali (Huangqi), Herba agrimoniae (Xianhecao), Fructus jujubae (Dazao) had an ameliorating effect on Henoch-Schonlein purpura by decreasing these symptoms.

  • This double-blind randomized clinical trial was performed to evaluate the anti-anxiety, anti-stress effect of a modified formula WS-01 consisted with several herbs(Jujubae Fructus. Longanae Arillus. Poria Cocos) and germinated rice. The extract of the formula was administered (p.o) to 24 students and placebo was to 23 students for 4 weeks. STAI-KYZ(Hahn. Hakjisa), ABR2000(Meridian, Korea), CBC, LFT, U/A were checked before and after the administration period. There was no difference between the STAI score of WS-01 and that of placebo group in first test. But the STAI state anxiety score was 5.33±7.33 reduced in WS-01 group and it was 0.52±6.42 increased in placebo group in second test. this result was significant stastically. 10 students in WS-01 group showed improving result, but only 1 student in placebo group showed improving result of ABR2000 test. The result of ABR2000 was analyzed with curve 2, Regulation 2, and graph 1,2,3, because those reflect central nerve system and stressful condition of the body. There was no significant result in first and second CBC, LFT, Urine test. The results of this clinical study suggest that WS-01 has anti-anxiety, anti-stress effect, and it could be applied to various conditions or disorders related with anxiety and stress.
