  • This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of ginseng Jung Kwa and Jung Kwa solution prepared according to boiling frequency on Jung Kwa process. Ginseng Jung Kwa was made as follows: washed ginseng 8 kg was boiled 5 min with water 16 kg and then boiling water 8 kg was removed. Sucrose 10 kg was added to boiled ginseng soaking in hot water. Jung Kwa was boiled down for 60 min in sugar syrup and soaked for 24 hrs. According to the above process, Jung Kwa was boiled down 5 times. Moisture and pH of Jung Kwa and Jung Kwa solution decreased as the number of boiling time increased and $^{\circ}Brix$ of Jung Kwa solution increased. Crude saponin content of last Jung Kwa (GJ 6) increased to 4 times of raw ginseng. Content of Rf and Rd, component of ginsenosides, increased 77 and 16 times on Jung Kwa, respectively and content of crude saponin on last Jung Kwa solution (GJS 5) was 61.88 mg/g. The other ginsenosides on Jung Kwa decreased. As the number of boiling time increased, concentration of total sugar, glucose and fructose of Jung Kwa and Jung Kwa solution increased. Content of total organic acid on Jung Kwa decreased, especially, succinic acid, main organic acid of ginseng, decreased rapidly. L value of Jung Kwa decreased whereas a and b values increased.

Jung point is significant as the beginning of pulse energy flow on meridian, the origin of all meridional pulse energy being located at extrimity terminal, confluence of three yin and three yang, and emergent treatment point. 2. Jung point venesection therapy was much used for the first-aid treatment for acute and thermic disease, and that is the combination of the meaning as of restoration from death and emergent treatment of Jung point and function of openning of orifice, leakage of fever, circulation of blood, remove of edema of venesection therapy. 3. It is very much used for emergency case, five sensory organ disease and CVA, heating shock and so on. Besides that digestive disease, cough, fever with cold, childhood disease, cardiac ache, thoracic disease, numbness of digitus terminal, mental disorder follow that in order. 4. Sosang, Jung point of Arm Greater Yin Lung meridian, is very much used for five sensory organ disease. Sosang is for orbital disease, sangyang for auditory disease, sosang for nasal disease, and sosnag for introitus-throat disease. 5. Ten Jung point is most used for first-aid diseases of CVA, heating shock. 6. Ten Jung point is most used for digestive disease of stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea, intestinal convulsion. 7. Ten Jung point is most used for cold disease of cough, fever, malaria. 8. Ten Jung point, sosang, kwanchung are much used for childhood disease of acute convulsion and fever. 9. • Object : This study was undertaken to define the mechanism of GwakHyangJungGiSan-induced relaxation in rabbit common carotid artery contracted by agonists. Method : In order to investigate the effect of GwakHyangJungGiSan on rabbit's contracted vascular ring detached from common carotid artery, vascular ring intact or damaged endothelium was used for the experiment using organ bath. To analyze the mechanism of GwakHyangJungGiSan-induced relaxation, GwakHyangJungGiSan extract was infused into contracted vascular ring which had been pretreated by pretreatment of indomethacin(IM), tetraethylammonium chloride(TEA), $N{\omega}-nitro-L-arginine(L-NNA)$. Result : GwakHyangJungGiSan blocks an inflow of $Ca^{2+}$ and relaxes vascular ring by the action of Nitric oxide from endothelium. Consequently when GwakHyangJungGiSan is prescribed, a rise in blood pressure by the resistance of peripheral vessel may be controlled to some extent and so it is anticipated that hypertension, a disorder of blood flow from the vascular contraction and vascular disease will be treated well.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of Ginseng Jung Kwa prepared with different soaking times in sugar syrup. As soaking time in sugar syrup increased, the moisture content of Ginseng Jung Kwa decreased and the sugar concentration increased. In addition, L values of Ginseng Jung Kwa decreased significantly. A and b values were the highest at S2 and S1, respectively, and gradually decreased. Hardness, gumminess and chewiness of Ginseng Jung Kwa increased as soaking time in sugar syrup increased, but springiness and cohesiveness were not significantly different. The results of sensory evaluations showed that overall preference scored the highest for Ginseng Jung Kwa soaked in sugar syrup for 2 days.

  • Objectives : This study investigated the hepatoprotective effects effects of Jageum-jung extract on alcohol-induced liver disease mice model. Methods : Alcoholic liver disease was induced by Ethanol in C57/BL6 male mice, which were fed Lieber-DeCarli liquid diet containing ethanol. Jageum-jung (100,200 and 300 mg/kg bw/day) were orally administered daily in the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice for 16 days. Results : The results indicate that Jageum-jung promotes hepatoprotective effects by significantly reducing aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) levels as indicators of liver damage in the serum. Furthermore, Jageum-jung decreased accumulation of triglyceride and total cholesterol, increased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in the serum of the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice model. Additionally, it improved the serum alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity. Conclusions : This study confirmed the anti-oxidative and hangover elimination effects of Jageum-jung extract, and suggests the possibility of using Jageum-jung to treat alcholic liver disease.
