  • From the study on A Study on A Study on Formation of Oriental Medicine Theory based on Analogical Inference, the conclusion is as follows. Analogical inference belonging to informal logic has very important point that it makes new knowledges of unknown field from basis of common knowledge field. The form of Analogical Inference is "A: a-B: (b)", In "Naegyeong(內經)", models of analogy are classified into two types. One is that of analogical inference making new knowledges in company with effects of Heung-gi(興起), Another is to unite common knowledges, While the example of analogy between military science and medicine belongs to type of the former, example of bureaucracy and medicine belongs to type of the latter, that based on rearrangement of common knowledge. Two type have similar system of national government or military management in basis. In such process of analogical inference, we expect that new knowledges of Oriental Medicine would be accumulated in the future, in the same way of the past.

  • This study explored the process of the professionalization of Korean Oriental medicine in Je-Han Medical Center. Je-Han Medical Center has fulfilled the requisites of the professionalization. The process of professionalization of Je-Han Medical Center is different from the process of professionalization of Western medical profession. Firstly, the Korean Oriental medical doctors of Je-Han Medical Center had been educated the standardized Korean Oriental medical knowledges. But the medical practices of them were not fully standardized. Secondly, the Korean Oriental medical doctors of Je-Han Medical Center have occupied the exclusive rights in the areas of Korean Oriental medicine. But there still exists the restriction of the range of license. Thirdly, the Korean Oriental medical doctors of Je-Han Medical Center had pride as a Korean Oriental medical doctor. They had the ideology as the national medical doctors. But the patients' use of Korean Oriental medicine were based on the practical reasons, not based on the ideological reasons. Fourthly, the inner hierarchy of Je-Han Medical Center was very strict. But the hierarchical and authoritarian relations between medical doctors and patients were very weak. Like this, we can find the unique process of professionalization of Korean Oriental medicine in Je-Han Medical Center. These findings can contribute to the extend the horizon of the sociology of profession.

  • Subject : The Imminent Labor Pulse(臨産 離經脈, extra-meridian pulse approaching labor) is one of many practical clinical knowledges, unique to Traditional Korean(Eastern) Medicine. Objective : This research explores the origin and change of perception on the subject throughout history, with objective to sort out practical knowledge applicable in the clinic of today. Also, it draws clinical meaning of pulse diagnosis according to the physiological theories, and suggests directions for future clinical researches. Method : First, the Imminent Labor Pulse was examined based on major publications such as the "Nanjing", "Maijing" and theories of major doctors. Second, this previous study was examined through clinical observation research. Third, further research was carried out on pulse theory according to the Traditional Medical theories. Fourth, their clinical practicality and points of further research were sorted out. These points need to be examined through additional clinical research. Conclusion : The following conclusions could be drawn from study of the Imminent Labor Pulse. From the Imminent Labor Pulse which indicated the beginning of the first period of labor in the "Maijing", it developed into trying to grasp the beginning of the second period of labor which is the actual time of labor, through "Zhubingyuanhoulun" and "Shizaizhifang". By Xueji, another pulse that could be felt on the middle finger of the mother had been discovered. The middle finger is where the Pericardium Meridian flows. The child's connection to the uterus becomes disconnected on the first period, but that with the Pericardium meridian which provides blood meridian to the Taichongmai of the child continues throughout labor until the umbilicus chord is cut. Therefore, this middle finger pulse could serve as showing the heart condition of the mother and child during labor. The time of its appearance and disappearance, and their correlation with the child's heartbeat need to be clinically examined.

  • We in this paper propose a mobile application for supporting medical treatment based on Korean medicine ontology. It has three processes for treating patients. First, after a pattern is decided for patient' symptoms, a formula for the pattern is selected and medicinal materials constituting the formula is added or removed. Second, formulas are searched and prescribed for patient's symptoms without the process of the pattern decision. Third, after medicinal materials are searched for patient's symptoms, formulas consisting of the medicinal materials are prescribed. Our application aims to help korean medicine doctors treat patients through providing decision supporting functions such as the recommendation of symptoms of diseases accompanying patient's symptom. Doctors generally diagnosis patients according to their experiences and knowledges. Nevertheless, our application can help them, providing diverse forms of information that they may miss in the medical treatment.

Kyung-jong, the 20th King of Chosun was born in 1688 as a prince and passed away in 1725. When he was prince, his main diseases were some infectious things; for example, smallpox, measles, a sort of malaria, a sort of mumps etc. But the time he was king, his main diseases were related unenergetic(虛證). According to "The Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Chosun Dynasty" yak-bang(藥房) records, some informations about his health are different from general knowledges. At first, His father's dead is more related his health than his mother's dead. Second, he was fat, not thin(or desiccate). Third, his infertility was not caused his mother when she died. Fourth, he was regarded as one of psychological healthy person. And not exactly related Kyung-jong's health, in "The Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Chosun Dynasty" at Kyung=jong's era, there are some meaningful informations at medical history. One is a doctor who was smallpox specialist. His name is Yoo-Sang, he treated three of Chosun's King very perfectly and his family worked for the royal family's health for 150 years, especially treating smallpox. the other is prescription Gamijojungtang(加味調中湯), Kyung-jong's favorite prescription. • The international government committee is progressing their agreements about intellectual property protection of traditional knowledge(TK), gene resource(GR), folklore(FL) in WIPO. It is in the course of selection with precedence of TK, GR, FL in WIPO, focused on discussions about listing of TK documents, standardization of DB construction, sharing and profit distribution of GR. There are disagreements between developed countries and developing countries about intellectual property protection agreements of TK, GR. The developed countries insist on using the existing intellectual property protection, but the developing countries ask new ones on character of TK, GR. It causes intangible assets to be valuable trade properties in future world trade. This research Groped for a summary program about intellectual property protection of traditional knowledge(TK) etc. debating in WIPO. This program confirms that such as TK, GR etc. not only to be the cultural property accumulated in human history, but also to be the original resource may be using at present. Therefore, we suggest that the focus of discussion should transfer to UNESCO instead of WIPO which only deal with the intellectual property protection. Besides, the main body which protecting and supporting TK should become its holding organization so as to achieve more effective management about it. In order to protect and support TK, the government should have firstly the recognition that TK is the property belongs to the country. By this viewpoint, it needs to setup DB through overall excavation of the unofficial knowledges in order to protect and support these TK, GR. Because the positive dealing with those WIPO's discussion means to support our TK, GR, so there should have some reorganization about existing related ones, and also needs systemic supporting policies & management' system.

  • This is a preliminary study for examining the identity issue of the current Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM). In order to examine the identity issue, it is necessary to understand "what" current TKM is. The current TKM has been formed in the complicated historical settings and the newly formed academic geography of modern times, completely different from those of the traditional era. This paper took diachronic and synchronic approaches in order to understand the current TKM. In the process of modernization and scientization of the TKM-which had begun in the early twentieth century-the western medical knowledge merged into the TKM. Also, as the College education of the TKM began after the Liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, the TKM scholars accepted the western medical department system to develop the TKM into professional knowledge. Meanwhile, since the late 1970s, the TKM has been influenced by the modern Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and the TCM knowledge also merged into the TKM. And recently, the research methodology of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and the clinical research technique of the western medicine-like Evidence based Medicine (EBM)-are affecting the scientization and clinical study of the TKM. The current TKM has been formed as a result of the hybridization of these different knowledges. These changes in the TKM were inevitable for the survival of it in the fast changing world. But these changes brought with them problems. Among those, the identity issue is the most important and crucial.
