  • The purpose of this study is to compare the characteristics of research collaborations in the field of LIS. While there are several studies under the unit of analysis of country, there are only a few studies under the unit of analysis of institution in LIS field. For this analysis, we selected eight journals in the KCI (Korea Citation Index) web site, which correspond to the field of LIS through subject classification. The collaborative indices, Collaborative Coefficient, Co-Authorship Index, Local Collaborative Index (LCI), Domestic Collaborative Index (DCI) allowed us to comparatively analyze institutional collaboration patterns in LIS field. In the case of Chung-Ang University, Yonsei University, and Ewha Womans University, collaborative research among professors, graduate students, and professors reflected the fact that collaborations among universities are often performed with professors. In the case of KISTI, which showed a very high index value, the characteristics of project-based research are reflected in the research collaboration pattern.

  • This paper discussed the factors that necessitated information networking, types of networks, benefits of information networking, library information networking and the University of Port 0Harcourt library network initiatives. Information networking is a process of communication, exchange of ideas, resource sharing and collaboration between individuals, organizations, institutions and libraries and it is facilitated by ICTs and the internet for improved accessibility. It has been brought about by information explosion, rapid advancement in information communication technologies, inadequate funding and increased demand for quality information. Networks can be classified into local, national, regional, and international networks and are formed to serve different categories of user communities. Benefits of information networking include resource sharing, on-line conferences and participation in programmes at distant centers, collaboration among scholars in different countries. Communication flow through the internet, social media, and electronic mail. Library information networking started with the interlibrary loan which has metamorphosed into library consortia in which groups of libraries partner to coordinate activities, share resources and combine expertise. The University of Port Harcourt Library network initiatives started with an e-granary (a CD ROM) and the establishment of a local area network. The library subscribes to more than 10 electronic databases. Information networking has greatly improved the sharing of resources in acquisition and dissemination of information resources since no single institution can acquire the overwhelming number of information resources in their various formats.

  • This case study reports on the redevelopment of a course, Local Culture Information Theory offered by the Department of Library and Information Science at C University, into a capstone design course using a project-based learning approach. In collaboration with a local community youth organization, the redesigned course provided an opportunity for LIS students to develop and implement a digital literacy program that enabled high school students to use a variety of digital multimedia technologies to complete a project of digital Human Library featuring video, audio, and digital are such as webtoons. Through semi-structured interviews with 5 students and 3 staff from partner organizations, this study reports on course development process, the establishment of local partnerships, project outcome, as well as suggestions for improvements. In addition, a qualitative analysis of the participating students' interview responses using the Framework for 21st Century Learning (P21) found they developed and improved 11 skills across three core areas: life and career skills including self-direction, project management, collaboration with diverse teams, flexibility, responsibility, leadership; learning and innovation skills including communication and collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking; and information, media, and technology skills through media creation. Lessons learned and recommendations from this case study may be useful for other LIS programs and faculty interested in implementing project-based learning or developing capstone design courses.

  • The ecosystem of the Library has been radically changing in the advent of ubiquitous information service technology. We are already aware of the digital library due to popularizing digital information resources and we are impressed with Library 2.0 and Social Semantic Digital Library of user-centered, service-oriented library. We summarize the ultimate goal of the evolution of library systems as knowledge services and propose a logical model of library system for the realization of knowledge services. This local model can be applied for a library framework to harmonize the diverse knowledge resources, active users with participation and collaboration, the innovation of library business and ubiquitous information service technologies to achieve the missions of library in knowledge-intensive society.

  • This study explores the characteristics of centrality measures for analyzing researchers' impact and structural positions in research collaboration networks. We investigate four binary network centrality measures (degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and PageRank), and seven existing weighted network centrality measures (triangle betweenness centrality, mean association, weighted PageRank, collaboration h-index, collaboration hs-index, complex degree centrality, and c-index) for research collaboration networks. And we propose SSR, which is a new weighted centrality measure for collaboration networks. Using research collaboration data from three different research domains including architecture, library and information science, and marketing, the above twelve centrality measures are calculated and compared each other. Results indicate that the weighted network centrality measures are needed to consider collaboration strength as well as collaboration range in research collaboration networks. We also recommend that when considering both collaboration strength and range, it is appropriate to apply triangle betweenness centrality and SSR to investigate global centrality and local centrality in collaboration networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of interlibrary loan (ILL) services using data from its transection. While analyzing the ILL data, agenda to improve the quality of services was identified, and suggestions were made to address them. Three data sets including National Inter-Libary Loan data, National Library Statistics System data, and local inter-library loan system analysis data were collected and analyzed. The results indicate that the size of transaction in ILL is getting bigger. The local ILL, particularly, was expanded and actively used by people. Additionally, the type of library participating in ILL networks was diverse and the number of library was increasing. Finally, this study discussed the tool to measure the contribution of each library in ILL. The collection uniqueness and collaboration index of library as well as the ILL statistics should be considered in the process of the tool development.

  • This study intended to look at the Library Living Lab to solve community problems. To this end, this study investigated cases outside of the country and investigated various aspects of Living Lab's application to solving community problems. In addition, a survey was conducted on residents of Chungju to find areas where libraries can contribute to solving problems in the community and investigate the need. As a result, residents generally responded that "Library Living Lab," in which libraries participate in living lab activities in various fields, is needed to solve problems in the community. It shows that the range of services and activities that the library can provide can be expanded to the community and can be an innovative measure for library services that can solve almost all problems in the community through the Library Living Lab.
