  • Due to the fact that nurses may deal with diverse populations in the work place, it is very important for then to maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships with clients. Nurses should maintain diverse types of relationships appropriately with patients with special needs and their families during crisis, other nursing colleagues and staff on the same team, clients in the school or work place as well as the community. In particular, a hospital is a society with a system and hierarchy, and the importance of interpersonal relationships is much more emphasized. In interpersonal relationships, it is very important for a person to communicate with others in an accurate manner, and when the communication is not achieved appropriately, the person may have troubles and experience distress and conflicts because of the inaccurate communication of thoughts. According to the findings of previous studies, nurses actually experience much distress in the work place because of the miscommunication that they have with others. The purpose of this study was to observe a correlation between Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and assertiveness behavior, and to exam the effects of assertiveness training on the assertiveness behavior and conflict management mode. The subjects of this study included 20 persons in the experimental group and 20 persons the in control group. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was applied before the study. The assertiveness training group received six, 120 minutes sessions over a 3 week period. Pre-test on assertiveness behavior, Communication Conflict Inventory-General, Role Conflict Inventory- General, Conflict Management Mode was achieved for all the subjects prior to the training. Post-test was administered to all the subjects one week following the last session. The data were analyzed using SPSS PC program to obtain findings on mean. standard distribution, t-test, and Pearson correlation. The results are as follows: (1) Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Introvert/Extrovert was correlated to assertive behavior and avoid- response type conflict management mode. (2) The assertiveness training was correlated to assertiveness behavior, communication conflict degree, and avoid- response type conflict management mode. (3) The post-test scores between the training group and the control group were significantly different in assertiveness behavior and avoid-response type conflict management mode. It is suggested that more studies need to be done to differentiate the effects of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and assertiveness training on assertiveness behavior and avoid-response type conflict management mode.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships between the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) psychological type and marital satisfaction, divorce proneness, positive affect, and conflict regulation in couple visiting a clinic. Methods: Couples (n=62) who visited "M" couple clinic participated in the study. Data were collected from March to June 2009 using the Marital Satisfaction Scale, Marital Status Inventory, Positive Affect Inventory, and Conflict Regulation Inventory. Results: The couples showed no significant differences in marital satisfaction, positive affect, and conflict regulation according to similarities between spouses in MBTI types. However, they showed significant differences in divorce proneness of husband according to a similarity in the Sensing/Intuition indicator. They also showed significant differences in divorce proneness, positive affect, and conflict regulation between the couples for ISTJ (Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) or ESTJ (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) types compared to other couples. Conclusion: When nurses counsel couples, they should understand that differences in psychological type between spouses affects their marital relationship. In addition, nurses should educate couples on the characteristics of each type according to the couple's types and help them to understand each other, especially for couples where one spouse is the ISTJ/ESTJ type. These interventions will improve marital satisfaction and prevent the divorce in these couples.

Methods: This study was a cross sectional survey and the data was collected from 267 freshmen nursing students by means of self reported questionnaires from March 3 to 30, 2012. Collected data were analyzed on SPSS win 18.0. Results: 16 personality types were all seen in this study participants. There were no significant differences in stress, stress coping, and school adaptation according to 4 functions and 4 temperaments of MBTI. Conclusion: Nursing students show various personality types and we need to understand their diversity and reflect it to a school curriculum or education program development. Further study is required to identify the effects of self-understanding program on stress management and school adaptation.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the personality types between pediatric and other dental residents. 77 pediatric dental residents and 71 other dental residents in Korea were surveyed by Myers-Briggs Type Indicator questionnaire. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) had 4 personality dichotomies consisting of 2 opposite characteristics that were extraversion / introversion, sensing / intuition, thinking / feeling, and judging / perception. Combinations of these four dichotomies could make 16 personality types. The percentage of pediatric dental residents was higher in sensing and judging, but there were no statistically differences. The majority of personal type was ISTJ in both groups. Statistical significance observed only in gender. The ratio of thinking was higher in male than in female (p < 0.05). The meaning of this study was the first survey performed on the personality types between pediatric dental residents and other dental residents in Korea. Further study with pre-survey orientation and increased sample size should proceed.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide Simulation Problem-Based Learning (S-PBL) for community visit nursing students according to their Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality types for learner-focused education and to verify its effectiveness. Methods: This study was conducted with subjects having the ST (Sensing-Thinking) and NF (iNtuition-Feeling) personality types, which are conflicting personality types, and forty-one subjects were allocated to the experimental group and nineteen subjects to the control group. The training, provided to subjects once a week, for a total of six times and 100 minutes each time, was with respect to the improvement of problem-solving ability, communication ability, and clinical practice competency. Data were analyzed through t-test and independent t-test. Results: After training, the self-rated problem-solving competency (t=3.07, p=.003), communication ability (t=2.86, p=.006), and academic self-efficacy (t=2.44, p=.018) were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. However, there was not a significant difference in the clinical practice ability rated by subjects themselves (t=1.50, p=.140) and by professors (t=1.08, p=.285), and in the communication ability rated by professors (t=0.72, p=.474). Conclusion: The community visit nursing S-PBL, according to MBTI personality types, is a helpful learning method for nursing students participating in self-directed learning of nursing theory and practice.

There was a significant difference (P<0.001) between fashion involvement and the 8 classified personality types. In fashion involvement, the extroverted feeling type was significantly higher than the other types. In brand image orientation, the extroverted thinking type was significantly higher than the other types (P<0.05). In fashion ad-orientation, the extroverted feeing type was also significantly higher than the other types. In active or passive complaining behaviors, there was no difference. • The purpose of this research was to determine the relation between clothing evaluative criteria and personality types. Primary factor analysis was used to classify the clothing evaluative criteria and the continual scores of Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) were used for classifying the personality types. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to determine the relation between the clothing evaluative criteria and the personality types. The data for this research were collected from questionnaires of 309 female university students in Seoul. In the results, the clothing evaluative criteria were grouped into 4 underlying dimensions: practical, situational, appearance producible and symbolic. Partially significant relations between the 4 clothing evaluative criteria and the 4 indicators of MBTI personality types were found through correlation analysis. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the variables explaining the dimension of Sensing and Intuition (SN) were appearance producible and symbolic clothing evaluative criteria; the appearance producible criterion had an inclination toward Intuition while the symbolic criterion had an inclination toward Sensing. The variable explaining the dimension of Judging and Perceiving (JP) was situational clothing evaluative criterion, which had an inclination toward Judging.
