  • This study was designed to evaluate the effects of an oriental medicine(Siryung-tang) on pain caused by Post-herpetic neuralgia. We treated a 70 year-old male patient who suffered left flank pain by Post-herpetic neuralgia. As for treatment, we used Siryung-tang. After seven-day of treatment, all symptoms started to improved. This study suggests that Siryung-tang is effective in treatment of pain by Post-herpetic neuralgia.

  • The purpose of this study was to report the effect of Bogijetong-tang on post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN). The main symptoms were numbness, pain, burning, paresthesia on left dorsum pedis and insomina. We prescribed Bogijetong-tang (BJT) three times a day and performed acupuncture and moxibustion twice a day. We observed the change of symptoms to evaluate the therapeutic effect. The symptoms were evaluated with numerical rating scale(NRS). After the treatment, pain decreased from 8 to 3, burning from 5 to 1, paresthesia from 7 to 5, numbness from 5 to 3 and insomina improved. Above the results, Bogijetongtang is effective in treating post-herpetic neuralgia.

  • Objective; This study was designed to investigate the effect of Sa-am acupuncture and Arctii Fructus water extract on Post-herpetic Neuralgia. Method: We have treated them with acupuncture treatment of Sa-am acupuncture and Arctii Fructus water extract and evaluated the effect by Pain Rating Score(P.R.S.) and Visual Analogue Scale(V.A.S.) scale. Result: Before theraphy, the grades of Song's scale were P.R.S. 80 and V.A.S. 100, Kim's sclae's P.R.S. 77 and V.A.S. 100. After theraphy, the grades of song's scale were P.R.S. 5 and V.A.S. 10, Kim's scales's P.R.S. 10 and V.A.S. 10 Conclusion: The treatment of Sa-am-acupuncture and Arctii Fructus water extract on Post-herpetic Neuralgia was effective and will be attempted to the patients with it.

  • An important technique of the present invention is primarily to parallel light detection, self-pulse therapy after diagnosis. Herpes zoster is a disease caused by varicella zoster virus, and the virus that has been latent in the dorsal root ganglion that controls the skin segment loses its immune system and physically damages it. It is an acute skin disease in which acute pain and bullous rash occur along the sensory ganglia, which are rehab by inducers such as malignant tumors. Dorsal root ganglion after complete recovery of varicella, relapsed after incubation in brain ganglion, latent virus sometimes suppressed activity by cell mediated immunity, and in cell ganglion with reduced cellular immunity. It proliferates and destroys neurons, causing pain while forming a rash and blisters. This can reduce cell necrosis and increase the phagocytosis and enzymatic activity through the movement of ions through the cell membrane, depolarization and membrane potential change, growth factor secretion, calcium ion transfer, chondrocyte synthesis, etc., And may offer treatment options for lesions of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).Therefore, according to the present research, the diagnosis and treatment device of treating paing for herpes zoster and post-herpetic pain can be implemented in the early stage of herpes zoster, and conventional analgesic regulation, anti-inflammatory effect, post-herpetic neuralgia.

  • Objectives Post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN) is one of the common complications in patients diagnosed with herpes zoster. The purpose of this case study is to suggest the effect of Galgunhaegui-tang and korean medicine treatment for post-herpetic neuralgia patient. Methods A 62-year-old Herpes Zoster patient suffered from rash with post-herpectic neuralgia was identified as Taeeumin Gansuyolriyolbyong. The patient's chief complaint was assessed by counting the number of oral analgesics taken and using Visual Analog Scale(VAS) score. The patient was treated with Galgunhaegui-tang and Korean medicine treatment. Results After 9 days of admission treatment including Galgunhaegui-tang, VAS of PHN was decreased from 7.5 to 4 and the number of taking oral analgesic was decreased from 2 to 1. Conclusions This case study indicates that Galgunhaegui-tang and Korean medicine treatment may improve the pain of PHN.

  • Objective : This study reports the effect of oriental medicine with depletion and cupping therapy on post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN) 1 case. Methods : We experienced one case of PHN treated by oriental medical treatment with depletion and cupping therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment, we used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Result : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and clinical symptoms were improved. Conclusion : Oriental medicine with depletion and cupping therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with PHN.

  • In controlling chronic intractable pains, the current therapeutic methods used are exercise, over the counter medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy, opioid medication, neural blockade, operation, etc., spinal cord stimulation being the last resort. Spinal cord stimulation was initiated when Shearly and others clinically tested the Gate control theory of Melzack and Wall. This had triggered the advancement of theoretic research on the mechanism and hardware necessary and has resulted in an accumulation of clinical experiences. This is known to be effective for treating sympathetic pain, arachnoiditis, failed back pain syndrome, radiculopathy, peripheral vascular disease, phantom limb syndrome, post-herpetic neuralgia, peripheral neuropathy, and angina pectoris. This report describes our experience in experimental spinal cord stimulation in patients with simultaneous post-herpetic neuralgia and herniated intervertebral disc. There wasn't any improvement in the post-herpetic neuralgia but the symptoms of a herniated intervertebral disc was much ameliorated. This was quite an unexpected result. The patient's back pain returned when the stimulation stopped.
