A Study of Ontology Construction Using Thesaurus: Transformation of Thesaurus into SKOS (시소러스를 활용한 온톨로지 구축방안 연구 - 시소러스의 SKOS 변환을 중심으로 -)

  • This study suggests the method of converting thesauri to SKOS step by step and it is formalized in three stages of the conversion process. The study develops output and guidelines for each stage. The converting stages are: (1) Collecting and analyzing thesauri for understanding about structure of terms and semantics of relation. (2) Defining the conversion method and creating ontology of the thesauri. (3) Examining the preservation of forms and various semantic relations between the thesauri and then creating SKOS ontology. This method can be applied to the thesauruses with complicated relations in concepts. In the future, it is needed to have an embodiment of conversion after making the algorithm of conversion by stage with the method suggested in this research.

  • 시맨틱 웹은 인터넷 환경에서 지식을 표현하고 공유하기 위한 표준 기술들의 집합체이며, 온톨로지는 특정 지식 도메인의 용어와 용어 사이의 관계를 정의한 지식 표현체계이다. 본 연구에서는 시소러스를 SKOS 기반 온톨로지로 모델링하여 LOD로 공개하는 실제적 방법을 제시한다. 시소러스의 어휘 용어 체계와 의미 관계를 분석하고, 이 분석 결과를 활용하여 변환 방식을 정의한 후, SKOS 온톨로지를 생성하며, 그 결과를 DataHub에 등록함으로써 LOD에 공개된다. 과학기술 분야의 한 중 일 대역어와 유사어, 관계어 등의 시소러스를 SKOS 온톨로지로 변환한 데이터는 http://thedatahub.org/dataset/steak에서 확인할 수 있다.

A Study on Converting the Theological Thesaurus to the Ontology by Using SKOS (SKOS를 이용한 신학 시소러스의 온톨로지로의 변환에 관한 연구)

  • In order to convert a thesaurus described by a person to ontology, the first step is to translate the thesaurus to the ontology by using SKOS, which is suitable for conversion to ontology and was chose an international standard by W3C. SKOS is suitable for converting thesaurus or subject headings or classification system to ontology, but we need a web language to describe an ontology as RDF/XML. RDF/XML is so difficult to read and write that we can need RDFa embedded in HTML document or Turtle, which is more easily describable and readable. Along with description using SKOS, this research has experimentally constructed the ontology by using ontology construction program $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ 4.2. In addition to basic concept relationships of thesaurus like equivalent relationship, hierarchical relationships, association relationships transitive hierarchical relationships are included suggested by SKOS in this research.

  • 시맨틱 웹은 인간 중심의 데이터 표현을 위한 HTML 기반의 기존 웹과는 달리, 웹에서 데이터의 의미를 표현함으로써 다양한 어플리케이션 간의 데이터 상호 교환을 통한 데이터 통합, 재사용성 증대, 기계에 의한 자동화된 처리를 가능하게 해준다. 온톨로지는 데이터의 의미를 표현하기 위한 방법으로 식별자(URI) 기반의 리소스 명명을 통해 데이터의 의미를 표현하며, Linked Data는 RDF 형식의 데이터 간 링크를 통해 웹 데이터 간의 연계 및 활용할 수 있는 환경을 제공해 준다. 본 연구에서는 용어 정보의 효과적인 공유 및 연계를 위한 방법으로, SKOS 기반 용어 온톨로지 모델링을 통해 용어 정보가 Linked Data에 연계되기 위한 방법을 제시한다.

The Design and Development of Linked Data from Authority Data in National Archives of Korea (기록물 전거통제 기반 Linked Data 구축에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop linked data of authority data in national archives of Korea as a cornerstone for linked data cloud of Korea. The study analyzed data structure of authority data as well as a retrieval system. It finally developed linked data based on RDF/OWL, Dublin Core, and SKOS. The study also employed TopBraid ComposerTM as a tool for ontology construction. The visualization of the tool provides users with flexible search and browsing between data as well as access of detail authority data. It complements the search of a current system in terms of flexible linking between records and authority data. The study also suggests future work to publish linked data of archival data set itself and make rich relationships among data in museums, libraries, and other archives.

  • The National Science and Technology Standard Classification System is established and operated for the purpose of efficiently managing science and technology related information, manpower, and R&D projects. The revision cycle for the classification system is five years, and 2022 is the first year of the next revision procedures. The main purpose of the next revision is to turn the third level categories into the keywords in the current classification system. It is to solve the problems about not reflecting the latest terms, and the difficulty in linking with the relevant other classifications caused by the rigid structure of the current classification system. In this study, the method was proposed by changing the existing classification system into the term management system as to improve the quality and usability of keywords related with the current third level categories. For this method, SKOS, the international standard terminology management system, and ISO/IEC 11179 standards were offered as basic models. In addition, the related metadata standards used in overseas scientific and technological glossaries were investigated, and compared with the current National Science and Technology Standard Classification System. And then essential metadata elements from the terminology management as point of view was derived. As a result, 11 standard metadata elements that can be immediately modified and applied in the current system were recommended, and five elements that can be applied after the revision of the classification system were offered.

  • This paper analyzes the activities and recommendations of W3C LLD Incubator group and investigates the benefits of Library Link Data through case studies. It also discusses the necessary global identification systems for developing useful LLD as well as the problems associated with linking available vocabularies with existing data sets. Ways to apply RDF, SKOS, Microformats, and RDFa to LLD are presented. the many challenges related to establishing LLD-based information services and the various barriers that prevent libraries from accepting LLD are also identified. Finally this paper presents a new LLD-based digital information system and provides some recommendations on how to promote and expand LLD in Korea.

A Study on the Establishment and Applications of the "News Core Thesaurus" ("뉴스 코어 시소러스"의 구축 및 활용 방안에 관한 연구)

  • This study suggests the establishment and applications of the News core thesaurus for efficient indexing and searching of news information. News core thesaurus was constructed as macrothesauri which can cover all of news subjects and then has microthesauri like politics, economy, society, culture, etc. as its subsets. In this research, News core thesaurus embodied 2,012 descriptors and 74 non-descriptors by SKOS(Simple Knowledge Organization System). It suggests measures that treat only special subjects in detail in weekly newspaper or biweekly newspaper with little information and special subjects, which is not daily newspaper, and use each microthesauri by merging or integrating in huge news archives or portal sites.

  • The paper discusses the nature of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOSs) and shows how these can support digital library users. It demonstrates processes related to integration of KOS like the Dewey Decimal Classification, $22^{nd}$ edition (DDC22) in DSpace software (http://www.dspace.org/) for organizing and retrieving (browsing and searching) scholarly objects. An attempt has been made to use the DDC22 available in Bengali language and highlights the required mechanisms for system-level integration. It may help a repository administrator to build an IDR (Institutional Digital Repository) integrated with SKOS-enabled multilingual subject access systems for supporting subject descriptors based indexing (DC.Subject metadata element), structured navigation (browsing) and efficient searching.

  • Linked Data는 서로 분리돼 있는 데이터를 HTTP와 SPARQL을 이용하여 한 번에 질의하는 것이 가능하다. 많은 공공정보들이 여러가지 형식으로 공개되고 있지만 데이터의 재사용성을 높이고 공개된 다른 데이터들과의 활용도를 높이기 위해 Linked Open Data (LOD)로 발행되고 있다. 국내 LOD 중 국가서지 Linked Data와 RISS Linked Data를 중심으로 발행현황을 살펴보고 LOD 발행 후 외부자원과의 연결을 시도한 활용서비스에 대하여 점검하고 활용방안에 대해 고찰하였다. LOD 발행에 있어 SKOS, FOAF, DC 등과 같은 국제 표준용어집을 사용하여 연계 용이성을 확보하고 LOD 연계에 대한 실질적 활용과 운용경험을 공유할 수 있는 플랫폼의 중요성을 제안하였다. 또한 국내외 LOD 플랫폼을 통해 홍보 및 네트워크를 구성하는 노력과 기술적인 운용에 대한 가이드의 필요성을 제안하였다.
