Comparative Analysis of CNN Techniques designed for Rotated Object Classifiation (회전된 객체 분류를 위한 CNN 기법들의 성능 비교 분석)

  • There are two kinds of well-known CNN methods, the group equivariant CNN and the CNN using steerable filters, which have excellent classification performances for randomly rotated objects in image space. This paper describes their mathematical structures and introduces implementation methods. We implement them, including the existing CNN, which have the same number of filters, then compare and analyze their performances by simulating them with the randomly rotated MNIST. According to the experimental results, the steerable CNN, which shows a classification improvement over the others, has a relatively small number of parameters to learn, so performance degradation is relatively small even when the size of the training dataset is reduced.

Vehicle Detection using Feature Points with Directional Features (방향성 특징을 가지는 특징 점에 의한 차량 검출)

  • To detect vehicles in image, first the image is transformed with the steerable pyramid which has independent directions and levels. Feature vectors are the collection of filter responses at different scales of a steerable image pyramid. For the detection of vehicles in image, feature vectors in feature points of the vehicle image is used. First the feature points are selected with the grid points in vehicle image that are evenly spaced, and second, the feature points are comer points which m selected by human, and last the feature points are corner Points which are selected in grid points. Next the feature vectors of the model vehicle image we compared the patch of the test images, and if the distance of the model and the patch of the test images is lower than the predefined threshold, the input patch is decided to a vehicle. In experiment, the total 11,191 vehicle images are captured at day(10,576) and night(624) in the two local roads. And the $92.0\%$ at day and $87.3\%$ at night detection rate is achieved.

Finger Vein Recognition Using Generalized Local Line Binary Pattern

  • Finger vein images contain rich oriented features. Local line binary pattern (LLBP) is a good oriented feature representation method extended from local binary pattern (LBP), but it is limited in that it can only extract horizontal and vertical line patterns, so effective information in an image may not be exploited and fully utilized. In this paper, an orientation-selectable LLBP method, called generalized local line binary pattern (GLLBP), is proposed for finger vein recognition. GLLBP extends LLBP for line pattern extraction into any orientation. To effectually improve the matching accuracy, the soft power metric is employed to calculate the matching score. Furthermore, to fully utilize the oriented features in an image, the matching scores from the line patterns with the best discriminative ability are fused using the Hamacher rule to achieve the final matching score for the last recognition. Experimental results on our database, MMCBNU_6000, show that the proposed method performs much better than state-of-the-art algorithms that use the oriented features and local features, such as LBP, LLBP, Gabor filter, steerable filter and local direction code (LDC).

  • There is no authentic solution in a face detection problem though it is an important part of pattern recognition and has many diverse application fields. The reason is that there are many unpredictable deformations due to facial expressions, view point, rotation, scale, gender, age, etc. To overcome these problems, we propose an algorithm based on feature-based method, which is well known to be robust to these deformations. We detect a face by calculating a similarity between the formation of real face feature and candidate feature formation which consists of eyebrow, eye, nose, and mouth. In this paper, we use a steerable filter instead of general derivative edge detector in order to get more accurate feature components. We applied deformable template to verify the detected face, which overcome the weak point of feature-based method. Considering the low detection rate because of face detection method using whole input images, we design an adaptive skin-color filter which can be applicable to a diverse skin color, minimizing target area and processing time.
