  • This study aims to investigate the effect of sampling frequency to the time domain and frequency domain analysis of pulse rate variability (PRV). Typical time domain variables - AVNN, SDNN, SDSD, RMSSD, NN50 count and pNN50 - and frequency domain variables - VLF, LF, HF, LF/HF, Total Power, nLF and nHF - were derived from 7 down-sampled (250 Hz, 100 Hz, 50 Hz, 25 Hz, 20 Hz, 15 Hz, 10 Hz) PRVs and compared with the result of heart rate variability of 10 kHz-sampled electrocardiogram. Result showed that every variable of time domain analysis of PRV was significant at 25 Hz or higher sampling frequency. Also, in frequency domain analysis, every variable of PRV was significant at 15 Hz or higher sampling frequency.

  • The time-domain response of a two-conductor-structure transmission line excited by an incident electromagnetic pulse is numerically analyzed using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The external electromagnetic pulse is generated by ultilizing a TEM cell. The simulated time-domain response is compared with the time-domain response which is obtained by the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) of the frequency domain measurement data.

  • The two-dimensional finite difference time domain algorithm is used to numerically reconstruct the electron density profile in O-mode ultrashort pulse reflectometry. A Gaussian pulse is employed as the source of a probing electromagnetic wave. The Gaussian pulse duration is chosen in such a manner as to have its frequency spectrum cover the whole range of the plasma frequency. By using a number of numerical band-pass filters, it is possible to compute the time delays of the frequency components of the reflected signal from the plasma. The electron density profile is reconstructed by substituting the time delays into the Abel integral equation. As a result of simulation, the reconstructed electron density profile agrees well with the assumed profile.

  • In this paper, the distortion characteristics of an electrical pulse which has a rise/fall time due to the dispersion and the reflection, on nonuniform tapered microstrip lines has investigated in time domain. The transmission characteristics on uniform microstrip lines in time domain had represented already, but the results for the nonuniform tapered microstrip lines not represented yet. We investigated the transmission characteristics for pulse signal on the nonuniform tapered microstrip lines, and the result applied to design of wide band impedance matching circuit in design of MMIC. The voltage and current transfer functions are shown for the tapered line. The dispersion and distortion obtained by using these transfer functions are represented for the nonideal square pulse.

  • A split-step time-domain model for the analysis of pulse delay characteristics through ring resonator all-pass filters (APF's) is developed and its accuracy is checked. The dependence of the delay time and pulse distortion on the coupling ratios is investigated using the model. It is observed that the bandwidth of the APF's needs to be wide enough to minimize the pulse distortion.

  • In this paper, two frequency domain signal processing techniques for pulse shape modulation(PSM) ultra wideband(UWB) systems are presented. Firstly, orthogonal detection of UWB PSM Hermite pulses in frequency domain is addressed. It is important because time domain detection by correlation-based receivers is severely degraded by many sources of distortion. Pulse-shape, the information conveying signal characteristic, is deformed by AWGN and shape-destructive addition of multiple paths from the propagation channel. Additionally, because of the short nature of UWB pulses, timing mismatches and synchronism degrade the performance of PSM UWB communication systems. In this paper, frequency domain orthogonality of the Hermite pulses is exploited to propose an alternative detection method, which makes possible efficient detection of PSM in dense multipath channel environments. Secondly, a ranging method employing the Cepstrum algorithm is proposed. This method is partly processed in the frequency domain and can be implemented without additional hardware complexity in the terminal.

  • The HEMP has very short rising time with several tens of kV/m, and very dangerous to almost of the electronics. And the certain level of EMP shielding effectiveness is necessary for mos t of the systems andequipment. In EMP shielding effectiveness, the peak value and the rising time in the system are the most considerable parameters. In order to find out these parameters, we need to estimate the pulse shape in time domain. In this paper, we propose the methods to estimate the penetrated pulse in time domain using measured shielding effectiveness and digital filter modeling technique. The validity of the Digital filter modeling technique is verified by the HFSS.

  • A unique technique to extract the phase in time domain is proposed in order to measure the time parameters such as speed and depth by transmitting sound and electric waves. In the signal analysis processing, the phase of pulse signal can be transformed and digitalized with local data in real time without the effect of direct current bias and Nyquist limits. This method is sensitive to base frequency of pulse signal with high spacial resolution and is effective to compare two signals which have different forms. It is expected that the phase analysis technique will be applied to the measurement of the speed and depth accurately by ultrasonic pulse signal in water.

Time-domain surface clutter signal is generated assuming earth of a sphere and considering geometry of a clutter patch, and generation of sub-array clutter signal is presented. The generated sub-array clutter signal can be used by simulation input signal in various radar applications of DBF(Digital Beamforming), ABF(Adaptive Beamforming), Stap(Space-Time Adaptive Processing) and etc.
