The present experiment was designed to examine catecholamines, serotonine, amino acids, malondialdehyde and free radical scavenging activity, by administering Yukmijihwangtang extract of a variety of concentraction to senile brain. The results were summarized as followings: 1. Yukmijihwangtang significantly increased noradrenaline in the striatum, hypothalamus, midbrain and pons-medulla oblongota of the brain tissue of senile rats, and even though Yukmijihwangtang increased noradrenaline also in other brain tissue, there was no significance. 2. Yukmijihwangtang significantly increased dopamine in the striatum, hypothalamus and midbrain of the brain tissue of senile rats, and even though Yukmijihwangtang increased dopamine also in other brain tissue, there was no significance. 3. Yukmijihwangtang significantly increased serotonine in the pons- medulla oblongata and cerebellum of the brain tissue of senile rats, and even though Yukmijihwangtang increased serotonine also in the other brain tissue except hypothalamus and midbrain, there was no significance. 4. Yukmijihwangtang significantly increased amino acid in the brain tissue of senile rats. 5. Yukmijihwangtang significantly decresed malondialdehyde and free radical in the brain tissue of senile rats. According to the above results, Yukmijihwangtang is assumed to improve brain function by reacting on biochemical of the senile brain, and that Yukmijihwangtang can be used to treat regressive brain disease carrying symptoms of psychoactive disorders.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding TMR with or without Yukmijihwangtang meal silage on the growth performance, meat yield and quality of Hanwoo steers. Sixteen male Hanwoo steers in the late fattening period were randomly assigned to a control diet and Yukmijihwangtang meal diet, with eight heads per treatment. The supplementation of Yukmijihwangtang meal silage did not affect the feed conversion rate, ribeye area, and meat yield index of cold carcass of Hanwoo. Fat thickness of Hanwoo s loin obtained from silage supplementation was significantly lower than that of non-supplemented. Total grade in meat yield of Hanwoo from silage supplementation were higher than that of non-supplemented control. The supplementation of Yukmijihwangtang meal silage to Hanwoo decreased the marbling score significantly, but did not affect fat color, firmness, and maturity. Total grade of meat quality of Hanwoo with Yukmijihwangtang meal supplementation was lower than that of non-supplemented control. In conclusion, Yukmijihwangtang meal could be used as partial substitution (10%) in TMR for fattening cattle. However, it is considered that Yukmijihwangtang meal can be a useful feed for the periods of growing or early fattening than that of late fattening since it improved meat yield but decreased meat quality grade of Hanwoo steers.
Objectives: This study investigated the effect of Yukmijihwangtang on cerebral ischemia-induced learning and memory impairment by middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion in rats. Methods: The ability of learning and memory of rats was measured using the eight-arm radial maze and the passive avoidance test, and profile of cholinergic neuron was assessed in the medial septum and hippocampus region by immuno-histochemistry. Results: 1. No differences were found between groups in the number of correct choices in acquisition performance during the eight-arm radial maze task. 2. No differences were found between groups on day 1 in the error rate in acquisition performance, which is defined as the number of enters into the same arm more than once within five minutes. After 5 to 6 days of test, the number of errors was significantly reduced in the Yukmijihwangtang group (forebrain ischemia group with Yukmijihwangtang treatment), compared with the ischemia group. 3. The memory processes significantly improved in the Yukmijihwangtang group according to results of the passive avoidance test. 4. The appearance of AchE (acetylcholinesterase) in the CA1 region of hippocampus significantly decreased in the ischemia group, compared with the sham group (untreated group). The appearance of AchE in the same region significantly increased in the Yukmijihwangtang group, compared with the ischemia group. 5. The appearance of ChAT (choline acetyltransferase) in the CA1 region of the hippocampus and medial septum decreased in the ischemia group, compared with the sham group. The appearance of ChAT in the same region significantly increased in the Yukmijihwangtang group, compared with the ischemia group Conclusions: This study provides evidence that Yukmijihwangtang is effective for reviving the ability of learning and memory and damaged neurons in rats with experimental cerebral ischemia.
Objective : This study is to investigate the effect of Yukmijihwangtang Gamibang on Male Acne patients. Methods : We treated 3 male acne patients diagnosed as the deficiency of Yin with Yukmijihwangtang Gamibang and comedon extraction. After treatments We compared the before and after photos, and estimated by Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS). Results & Conclusions : After taking Yukmijihwangtang Gamibang, extruding comedones by needle and appling acupuncture, the acne was improved. This study shows that the acne can possibly be diagnosed as the deficiency of Yin. So further studies are needed continuously.
The aim of the present experiments was to investigate the effect of Yukmijihwangtang water extracts on the plasma renin activity and plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide and aldosterone in rats. The effect of the traditional herbal medicine Yukmijihwangtang-Jahage(YJ) on the improvement of insulin resistance and lipid profile was studied using a model for non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, lean (Fa/-) and obese (fa/fa) Zucker rats. Yukmijihwangtang-Jahage feeding for 4 weeks resulted in a significant decrease in the concentration of plasma triglyceride in both lean and obese Zucker rats. Furthermore, Yukmijihwangtang-Jahage markedly decreased both plasma cholesterol and fasting plasma insulin, and significantly decreased the postprandial glucose level at 30 min during oral glucose tolerance test in obese Zucker rats. Although there was no statistical significance, the crude glucose transporter 4 protein level of Yukmijihwangtang-Jahage dieted obese rats tended to increase when compared to that of obese control rats. Therefore, the present results suggested that Yukmijihwangtang-Jahage may be useful in prevention and improvement of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperinsulinemia states such as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, syndrome X and coronary artery disease.
In this research, the acute toxicity of fermented Yukmijihwangtang extract was examined using male and female ICR mice, To evaluate the acute toxity and safety, 0(control group), 1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg of fermented Yukmijihwangtang extract were orally administered to male and female ICR mice. After single administration, we observed survival rates, general toxicity, changes of body weight for the 14 days and autopsy at 1 day following the administration according to the Regulation of Korean Food and Drug Administration. Compared with the control group, we could not find any toxic alteration in all treated groups (1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg). $LD_{50}$ of fermented Yukmijihwangtang extract might be over 5000 mg/kg and it is very safe to ICR mice.
The aim of this study was to find out the effects of the Yukmijihwangtang on transcription activity of Genes related to Bone Morphogenesis. For this purpose, experiments were performed to compare the polyphosphate contents of Yukmijihwangtang and its component herbs, and to verify their Effects on transcription activity of Genes related to Bone Morphogenesis. We know that Yukmijihwangtang and its component herbs have adequate amount of polyphosphate contents and have effects on transcription activity of Genes such as BMP1A, BMP2B, OTN, MGP, COL. In the conclusion, Yukmijihwangtang and its component herbs are strongly believed to have effectiveness on bone morphogenesis.
Objectives The purpose of this case study is to report the effect of Yukmijihwangtang-gamibang on recurrent hematuria in childhood. Methods The subject was a male child with macroscopic hematuria. This patient was only treated with oriental herbal medicine. The improvement was observed by subjective symptoms and routine urinalysis. Results After the treatment with Yukmijihwangtang-gamibang, the symptoms of macroscopic hematuria were relieved. The occult blood test was negative as well. The number of red blood cells in urine was within the normal range. He was less tired but hematuria did not recur even after intense exercise. Conclusions This study showed that Korean medical treatment with using herbal medicine such as Yukmijihwangtanggamibang can be an effective treatment option for asymptomatic macroscopic hematuria.
