Antibiotic Effect of Heat-Clearing Medicinals on Vaginal Microorganisms (청열약(淸熱藥)의 질내(膣內) 미생물(微生物)에 대(對) 항균효과(抗菌效果))

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate the in vitro inhibitory effects of heat-clearing medicinal on common bacterias in gynecology. Methods : The heat-clearing medicinals ( Trichosanthis Radix, Sophorae Fructus, Phragmitis Rhizoma, Buddleiae Flos, Bambusae Folium, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Celosiae Semen, Gardeniae Fructus, Prunellae Spica, Sophorae Radix, Dictamni Radicis Cortex, Coptidis Rhizoma, Gentianae Scabrae Radix, Scutellariae Radix, Phellodendri Cortex) were used in this study. Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Candida albicans and Gardnerella vaginalis were used for vaginal pathogenic microorganisms. Streptococcus spp., Escherichia coli HB101, Lactobacillus gasseri were used for normal vaginal florae. We evaluated antibiotic effect by the optical density and the colony test. Results : The optical density and colony test showed that Celosiae Semen, Prunellae Spica, Scutellariae Radix and Phellodendri Cortex of herbs among heat-clearing medicinal had antimircobial effect. Celosiae Semen and Prunellae Spica had antimicrobial susceptibility and selective toxicity in MRSA. Scutellariae Radix and Phellodendri Cortex had antimicrobial susceptibility and selective toxicity in Gardnerella vaginalis. Conclusion : According to the above results, we could suggest that Celosiae Semen, Prunellae Spica, Scutellariae Radix and Phellodendri Cortex among heat-clearing medicinal be available to antimicrobial agent of vaginal pathogenic microbial species in vitro.

  • Objective : Processing of medicinals are one of the most important part in medicinal treatment. However, in text books, there are disagreements and several terms with same meanings. Method : We tried to compare the processing of medicinals in text book, Bonchohak especially in exterior-releasing medicinal and heat-clearing medicinal. Results : The terms of processing of medicinals in introductions of text book, Bonchohak are different from those in an itemized discussion of exterior-releasing medicinal and heat-clearing medicinal. Conclusion : The terms of processing of medicinals in text book, Bonchohak should be reorganized and improved to make be clear and sure as a text book.

  • This text was analyzed and investigated the distribution of medicinal plants in Cheongoksan Bonghwagun Korea, in order to search the medicinal resources that are used in modern medicine. Medicinal plants of the Korean Pharmacopoeia (10th edition) distributed in Cheongoksan Bonghwagun were consisted of 93 taxa ; 82 species, 10 varieties, 1 forma of 79 genus, 50 families. In medicinal plants of the Korean Pharmacopoeia, rate of native species and exotic species was 89.2% (83 taxa) and 10.8% (10 taxa) respectively. Family classification was the most of compositae of 8 taxa, and life form classification was most of herb of hemicryptophyte species. The classification by using parts were 34 taxa of root use and the classification of efficacy utilization was 24 taxa of Cheongyeolyak (heat-clearing drug) use.

A Herbological Study on the Plants of Aspidiaceae in Korea (한국산 면마과(綿馬科) 식물에 관한 본초학적 연구)

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to developing Korean herbalogy of the plants belonging to Aspidiaceae in Korea. Methods : The herbological books and papers published at home and abroad were researched. The total list of Aspidiaceae was made and Medicinal plants in Aspidiaceae was classified. The medicinal properties, action and applications of medicinal plants were investigated. Results : 1. There are totaled to 17 genera and 130 species in Aspidiaceae in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 11 genera, 31 species, some 24% in total. 2. Athyrium genus is main kind enough that it has 32 species among 130 species in Aspidiaceae, and medicinal plants of Dryopteris is 4 species. 3. The rhizome is the main medicinal parts if medicinal plants in the Aspidiaceae, which is used in 24 species. 4. According to nature and flavor of medicinal plants in the Aspidiaceae, they were classified into cool 15 and cold 8 species ; bitter taste 19, and little bitter taste 15 in the order. 5. According to meridian propism of medicinal plants in the Aspidiaceae, they were classified into liver meridian 5 species, stomach meridian 3 species. 6. According to the properties and principal curative action, they were classified into drugs for clearing away heat 25 species, drugs for detoxification 22 species, drugs for promoting diuresis 16 species in the order. 7. The number of toxic species in the Aspidiaceae was examined to be 5 species. Conclusions : There are totaled to 17 genera and 130 species in Aspidiaceae in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 11 genera, 31 species, some 24% in total. Bibliographical Review on Oriental Medicine Herbal Treatment for Uterine Carcinoma (자궁암 치료 한약물에 대한 문헌적 고찰)

  • To make a bibliographical review on the most frequently used prescriptions and herbs in treating the uterine carcinoma. 43 texts in China and 6 texts in Korea published since 1980 were reviewed for this objective. 590 Oriental Herbal Medicine formulas composed of 457 herbs were investigated. The frequency and efficacy of each herb used were statistically analyzed. The most frequently used herbal medicine formulas were Danchisoyosan in hepatic Qi stasis, Sihosogan-tang mixed with Lungeumdaebo-tang in damage of conception and thoroughfare vessel, Danchisoyosangagam in blood heat, Hoangyunhaedok-tang in pattern of retained dampness-heat, Jibapjihang-tang in iver-kidney yin deficiency pattern, Naebohyunhapsamyoungbaekchulsan in spleen-kidney yang deficiency pattern. The herbal medicines most frequently used were; Angelicae gigantis radix(126 times), Phellodendri cortex(91 times), Borneolum(87 times), Glycyrrhizae radix and Paeoniae radix alba(82 times), Realgar and Alumen(80times), Poria(77 times), Astragali radix(75 times), Moschus and Myrrha(74 times), Coicis semen and Olibanum(73 times), Codonopsis pilosulae radix and Scutellaria bardata Don(70 times) etc. The effect of the most frequently used herbs were : heat-clearing medicine(12), blood-circulation and stasis-dispelling medicine(9), tonifying and replenishing medicine(5), ointments(5), heat-clearing and blood-cooling medicine(3) and etc. The most frequently used herbs may be applied in future animal studies and clinical trials. Also this data can be used as a reference in formulating new Oriental Herbal Medicine formulas for uterine carcinoma.

A Study on the Frequencies of Medicinal Herb Mombinations in the Prescriptions of "Wenbingtiaobian(溫病條辨)" ("온병조변(溫病條辨)" 수록(收錄) 처방(處方) 내(內)의 약물(藥物) 조합 빈도(頻度) 연구)

  • Through analyzing the frequencies of medicinal herb combinations in the prescriptions of "Wenbingtiaobian(溫病條辨)", we could understand the characteristics of prescription composition and author's medical thoughts. So we conducted this study that analyze combination of 258 medicinal herbs in 206 prescriptions, and found meaningful combinations of 700. Among these, the most meaningful combinations are the two of 8 herbs. One consists of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer, Platycodon grandiflorum, Lonicera japonica Thunberg, Sojae Semen Praeparatum, Mentha piperascens (Malinv.) Holmes, Forsythia suspensa, Phyllostachys nigra var henonis, Schizonepeta tenuifolia var. japonic, the other consists of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer, Platycodon grandiflorum, Lonicera japonica Thunberg, Mentha piperascens (Malinv.) Holmes, Forsythia suspensa, Arctium lappa, Phyllostachys nigra var henonis, Schizonepeta tenuifolia var. japonica. The former is Yeonkyo-san without Arctium lapp, the letter is Yeonkyo-san without Sojae Semen Praeparatum. It means these combinations are kind of modified Yeonkyo-san which is effective in outthrustting through the exterior with pungent-cool and clearing heat and detoxify. In conclusion, prescriptions of "Wenbingtiaobian(溫病條辨)" involve herbs mostly used to outthrust through the exterior with pungent-cool and clear heat and detoxify. Through this study, we know the author' s one of medical view points on outthrustting through the exterior with pungent-cool and clearing heat and detoxify.

A herbological study on the native plants of Dokdo island (독도의 식물 한약자원에 관한 본초학적 연구)

  • Objective : For the purpose of investigating the herbal resources of Dokdo island, this study was designed. Method : For the first time, we searched the native plants of Dokdo island from research data. And we examined herbological books on the plants of Dokdo island. Result : The native herbaceous plants in Dokdo island were 27 family and 73 species, and the medicinal plants were 49 species among them. The woody plants in Dokdo island were 12 family and 13 species, and the medicinal plants were 10 species among them. The main medicinal parts of medicinal plants were the whole body of herbs, roots, and seeds in order. The herbal medicines with cold or cool nature were 45 species, they took the top nature of the herbal medicines. According to the properties and principal action of native herbal medicines in Dokdo island, the major parts were classified into drugs for clearing away heat, eliminating toxin, activating blood flow and removing blood stasis, urination, removing heat from the blood and stopping of bleeding. The number of native herbal medicines with small toxicity in Dokdo island were 7 species. Conclusion : For the purpose of preserving the native plants of Dokdo island, we should recognize not only medical benefits but also matters that demand special attention.

A Study on the Prescription of Cheonggang Kim Yeonghun for Menstruation Related Diseases - Focused on the Etiological Factor "Hyeoljunggiche" (청강 김영훈의 월경 관련 질환 처방에 관한 연구 - 병인(病因) 혈중기체(血中氣滯)를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is analyzing how Kim Young-hun treated menstrual diseases-by utilizing the Cheonggang medical records DB. The term "Hyeoljunggiche (血中氣滯)" has been used as an etiological factor of menstrual diseases. Hyeoljunggiche mostly described menstrual diseases of females in the reproductive ages. Four of the most popular prescription were Jeungsonojeok-san (增損五積散), Hyeonbuigyeong-tang (玄附理經湯), Hyeonbuiyeong-jeon (玄附理營煎), and Hyeonbuohwa-eum (玄附五和飮). By writing a medicinal herb network of the four prescriptions, It was found that Kim Young-hun preferred to use three clusters of regulating qi and move blood medicinal (理氣行血藥), sānwù-tāng (三物湯), and píngchén-tāng (平陳湯) with some adjustment of heat-clearing medicinal (淸熱藥) and cold-dispelling medicinal (溫裏藥).

A Herbological Study on the Plants of Amygdalaceae in Korea (한국산 앵도과 식물에 관한 본초학적(本草學的) 연구)

  • Objectives : This objective of this study was to develop the Korean herbology of the plants belonging to Amygdalaceae in Korea. The literatures of the successive generations have been thoroughly investigated to prepare this article.Methods : The 22 herbological books and research papers published at home and abroad were researched into their total catalog, medicinal plants, distribution, medicinal properties, actions etc.Results : There are totaled to 1 genus and 48 species in Amygdalaceae in Korea and among them, medicinal plants were 1 genus, 17 species, some 35 % in total. The Fructus is the main medicinal parts in the Amygdalaceae, which was used in 18 species. According to nature and flavor of medicinal plants in the Amygdalaceae, they were classified into balance 22 species, and warm 11; bitter taste 23, sweet taste 14 and sour taste 13 in the order. According to meridian propism of medicinal plants in the Amygdalaceae, they were classified into large intestine meridian 13 species, lung and liver meridian 11 species respectively. According to the properties and principal curative action, they were classified into drugs for activation of blood 11 species, drugs for detoxification 10 species, drugs for clearing away heat 9 species in the order. The number of toxic species in the Amygdalaceae was examined to be 5 species.Conclusions : Among 48 species in Amygdalaceae in Korea, medicinal plants are 17 species, and are mostly used for drugs for activation of blood, which are 11 species.

A herbalogical study on the plants of Aspleniaceae in Korea (한국산 꼬리고사리과 식물에 관한 본초학적 연구)

The Herb play medicinal parts if most plants in the Aspleniaceae have the effect of a medicine, the 10 species of which are used for medical care. 4. According to nature and flavor of medicinal plants in the Aspleniaceae, the cold medicinal plants and the bitter medicinal plants take the highest number of them 5. According to the properties and principal curative action, they were classified into drugs for hemostatic 10 species, drugs for clearing away heat 8 species, drugs for detoxification 7 species respectively. 6. None of the species of Aspleniaceae have been found to be toxic. Conclusions : There are totaled to 2 genera and 21 species in Aspleniaceae in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 2 genera and 10 species some 48% in total.
