Inquiry on Post Surgery Induced Consumption in HyungSang Medicine View (우울증(憂鬱症)에 대한 형상의학적 고찰)

  • I looked into hypochondria, an increasing social problem, in psychological and Korean medical aspects and these conclusions were made through 16 clinical cases based on HyungSang medicine. Hypochondria is a disorder that is caused when feeble minded person could not fight the reality. It is caused by deficiency and stagnation of Ki which connects body and mind. In Korean medical view point mind and body is the same. Particularly, in HyungSang medicine believes that everyone's way of life and how to deal with situation differs according to the characteristics and traits. HyungSang medical treatment in hypochondria Mind and body is in line with each other, so manifestation of mental activity is caused by deficiency of combining action of vital Ki. Medication that helps combining force of vital Ki is needed. As the way people handle situation is different, according to characteristics and trait it is valid to differ counselling and treatment according to the criteria. Looking at 16 case studies of hypochondria patients, in gender wise, woman with astriction quality and engaging in much mental activities are more vulnerable. In view of vital substances, more cases were found in Jung type and Ki type. In animal type, bird and reptile type were, and in six meridian type, Tae yang, Yang Myong, Tae Eum and Kwolum type were more susceptible. Especially, cases of Indang being stagnant was noticeable. Moreover, the pulse activated parallel with the Heart which is a leading organ that manifests mental activity and controls seven emotions, so many cases were found that was far from Heart-Small intestine and Heart-Gall Bladder relationship.

Solution Method of Hypochondriasis through Focused Distraction (집중산만 전략을 활용한 건강염려증의 해소 방안 -인지치료적 접근-)

  • This research as a literature study is to clarify solution method of hypochondriasis through focused distraction. Hypochondriasis is called by various terms such as somatization symptoms, health anxiety, illness phobia, illness anxiety disorder, hypochondriacal disorder, hypochondriacal neurosis, and hypochondria personality disorder. Hypochondria is basically a factor that causes worry, fear, anxiety, and even phobia, lowering the quality of life at home, work, and society. As the quality of life of individuals is decreasing, the field of counseling psychology and psychological counseling has the task of solving this problem and restoring psychological peace. Accordingly, this study is an attempt to explore the symptoms of hypochondria by using the distraction strategy among cognitive strategies as a way to resolve the condition. Focused distraction strategy can be said to be a kind of cognitive 'avoidance strategy'. Focused distraction strategy is a way to avoid being overly focused on one's health. In addition, it weakens health concerns by 'dispersing' or 'distracting' the 'attention' focused on health in another direction.

  • In this study, the bibliographic classification, pathogeny, symptoms, therapeutics and prescriptions of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精) were researched. Reference to consult about its origin and the process of development showed the following results. 1. It was 1117 that the difference between Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精) began to appear for the first time in classical literatures. 2. In view of psychological side, it is suitable for siljeong(失精), the part of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精), to be called Taljeong(脫精). 3. Taljeong-Siljeong(脫營失精) was broken out by the internal factors. 4. Silyoung(失營) and Silyoung jeo(失營疽) are the worse states of Talyoung(脫營) and result in the incurable diseases. 5. Hypochondria and diaster psychology can be cured by the therapeutics of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精). 6. Prescription for Heoro-Talyoung(虛勞脫營) can be used in cure of Talyoung(脫營). Talyoung-Siljeoung(脫營失精) remarked in traditional oriental meicine is recognized to belong to the part of stress in mordern medicine. It is thought that the experimental investigation should be continued.

A Study on Application of Pyungwuisan Blended Prescriptions From Dongeuybogam (동의보감(東醫寶鑑) 중(中) 평위산연계방(平胃散連繫方)의 활용(活用)에 대한 고찰(考察))

  • The following are the conclusions obtained by the philological study of the prescriptions introduced in Dongeuybogam such as Pyungwuisan, Pyungwuisan-added prescriptions, Pyungwuisan blended prescriptions: 1. Pyungwuisan and drugs based on Pyungwuisan were prescribed for stomach diseases, food poisoning, indigestion, impaired spleen, symptoms developed by dampness, diseases caused by changing water, diarrhea, edema, malignant malaria, an intestinal convulsion, blood in excrement, malaria, abortion, sparrow eye. 2. Dual prescriptions using Pyungwuisan and other independent prescriptions were applied to internal diseases concerning digestion, diarrhea and dysentery, abscess, intestinal swelling jaundice, symptoms developed by dampness, malaria, vomit, etc. 3. Etiological factors and diseases for which Pyungwuisan and medicines based on Pyungwuisan, dual prescriptions using Pyungwuisan were prescribed, were surveyed to include indigestion, weak spleen and stomach, drying dampness of spleen and stomach, dysfunctioning gall bladder, infection, damaged internals, external sensitiveness and internal damage, hypochondria, chilliness due to lack of chi. 4. A prescription for each disease needed specially added medicines to Pyungwuisan as the following: 1) For indigestion and dyspepsia, Pyungwuisan were prescribed with optional addition of Hoisaengsan, Sagunjatang, Ryukgunjatang, Ijintang, Sosihotang, etc., according to the symptoms, and were most frequently used with aromatic and digestive medicines such as mawwa medivata fermentata, malt, natgrass galingale rhizome, vilous amomum fruit, aucklandia root, round cardamom seed etc. 2) For diseases originated from damage by coldness, Pyungwuisan was taken with suitable amount of Jichulhwan, Hyangsosan, Hyangyusan, according to the symptoms. 3) For diarrhea and dysentery, Pyungwuisan were prescribed with the recipes of Oryeongsan, Sambaektang, Ijintang. 4) For jaundice, prescriptions always included natgrass galingale rhizome in the recipe of Pyungwuisan. 5) For malaria, mostly added prescriptions to Pyungwuisan were Sagunjatang, Ryukgunjatang, Ijintang, with usual addition of antifebrile dichroa root, tsaoko, green tangerine orange peel. 6) Pyungwuisan was prescribed with Hoisaengsan for vomit, with Oryeongsan for edema, and with kinds of Ueolgukhwan for hypochondria.

A Study on the Relation between King Hyeonjong's Diseases and the Controversy about the Confucian Funerary Rituals (조선 현종의 질병과 예송논쟁의 관계에 대한 연구)

  • King Hyeonjong, the 18th king of the Chosun Dynasty, reigned for 15 years. During his reign, he underwent a political incident named the Controversy about the Confucian Funerary Rituals. This incident was carried out 2 times: 1 time during early days of his reign and 1 time during later days. Although it started out as a trivial dispute over the period Queen Dowager Ja-eui(stepmother of King Hyojong, Hyeonjong's father) had to wear a mourning dress, it advanced to a political incident concerning the acknowledgement of King Hyeonjong's legitimacy and political pride of the king and the vassals. Although existing researches focus on the historical context of this incident, this study focuses on the relationship between this incident and King Hyeonjong's disorders. During the First Controversy about the Confucian Funerary Rituals, King Hyeonjong was treated for various symptoms concerning hypochondria. During the Second Controversy, he suffered from septicemia as well as diabetic complications. This study is based on the texts of "The Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Chosun Dynasty".

Study on 'Hyung-Sang' Theory of Acupuncture Points in Each Chapter on 'Jung' and 'Ki' in Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam (동의보감 정문과 기문의 경혈 선택에 대한 형상론적인 연구)

  • First, we analyze the contents of Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam. Second, from the view of the 'Hyung-Sang(형상:body form)' theory, we try to interpret the acupuncture points chosen in each chapter with a base on the contents of the book. We study on the on 'Hyung-Sang(형상: body form)' thee of acupuncture points in each chapter on 'Jung(정)' and 'Ki(기)' in Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam(동의보감). The acupuncture points on epilepsy in 'Jung(정)' chapter are come from the purview of 'Jung(정)' type, man and 'Shin(신)' type. In the cade of hypochondria, it is often considered 'Ki(기)' pe and 'Shin(신)' type. The acupuncture points on all kind of Ki(기)-desease are come from the purview of the point of 'Ki-Hae(기해)'. The acupuncture points on congestion of the head are come from the purview of indigestible type or weak type of person and woman, and the acupuncture points on 'belch 'are come form the purview of 'KE(기)' type and 'Shin(신)' type. The acupuncture points on polypnea are come from the purview of having phlegm, weak type, and long necked type.

  • In the oriental medicine, the biological mechanism and pathogenic change have been based on the meridian. A Liver channel of those belong to the wood in the five element system, the Leg channel of the twelve primary channels, Absolute Yin(厥陰) in the three Yin channels and connect with Liver organ. Through the study on a liver channel, the results were as follows. Leg Absolute Yin is indicated for disease affecting the lower abdomen, uro-genital system, knee and thigh. Symptons associated with mind regulation system : hypochondria, a feeling of restlessness and the deficiency of Liver Yin. Symptons associated with disease of Absolute Yin.

척수손상환자의 우울성향에 관한 연구

  • Depression in Spinal Cord Injury Patients Kang, Soon Hee, M.Ed., R.P.T. Dept. of Rehabilitation Medicine, Kyung-Hee University Medical Center Depressions have the potential to affect adversely the rehabilitation of patients with spi-nal cord iniury. The present study examined depression, functional independence, and demographic and medical characteristics for 49 spinal cord injury(SCI) patients. This investigation involved the administration of the Beck Depression Inventory, the Modified Barthel Index, and aquestionnaire consisted of 14 items, The results were as follows .1. Compared to normal subjects, SCI patients had significantly higher BDI scores.2. When the cut-off point of HDI scores was assumed 21, 26.1% of normal subjeets and 75.5% of SCI patients appeared to be depressed. Depression in SCT patients were not related with age, sex, marital status, injury evel, severity, duration, pain, functional independence and medical charge. Depression in SCI patients were related with education level, economic level, age at injury, motivation. Depression in normal subjects were related with age, education level, economic level, but not related with sex, marital status. There were significant differences at 30 items of BDI between normal subjects and SCI patients. The items were as fellows . 1 sadness, 2 pessimism, 3 failure, 4 dissat-isfaction, 5 guilt, 6 punishment. 7 self-dislike 9 suicidal, 10 crying, 11 irritability, 12withdrawl, 13 indecisive, 14 self-image, IS work inhibition, 16 insomnia, 17 fatigue,18 anorexia, 19 weight loss, 20 hypochondria, 21 libido loss.

  • This study is to investigate the effects of personal characteristics and perceived interactivity on acceptance of mobile health information service by applying Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Also it examine whether the perceived interactivity, which is a key variable in the previous research studying the intention of PC-based health information service, works on the mobile environment equally. As a result of the analysis, the relationship between the health hypochondria of personal characteristics and perceived interactivity is negative, and the health concern and perceived interactivity is positive. Also, personal characteristics influence perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of mobile health information service through perceived interactivity. Therefore, the perceived interactivity in the health information service of web and mobile environment is an important variable to mediate or directly affect other variables.

A Study of the Chosun Dynasty King Hyeonjong's Acupuncture-moxibustion Therapeutic Records (조선 현종대왕의 침구치료기록에 대한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study is on the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment records of King Hyeonjong, classified according to diseases and chronology. Methods : Records on the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of King Hyeonjong have been extracted from the web database of "The Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Chosun Dynasty". First, all articles containing the keywords 'Yakbang (藥房)' and 'Euigwan (醫官)' have been extracted. Then, those during King Hyeonjong's reign have been rearranged in chronological order. Among these records, those regarding acupuncture and moxibustion have been used in this paper. Results : King Hyeonjong was mostly treated on eye diseases, musculoskeletal system disorders, deficient source qi, and tumor. Acupuncture treatment was preferred for eye diseases, and moxibustion treatment for musculoskeletal disorders. Medicine was used 50 times, acupuncture 4 times, and moxibustion 14 times to treat source qi deficiency, showing that acupuncture and moxibustion treatments were used for clear deficiency syndrome. Only on the case of tumor, the number of acupuncture treatments was bigger than that of medicine treatments. Conclusions : In the early days of his reign, King Hyeonjong suffered from hypochondria, as compared to source qi deficiency and septicemia during later days. He received frequent acupuncture and moxibustion treatments, and he especially preferred those treatments for eye diseases and musculoskeletal disorders.
