Lepisorus thunbergianus (Kaulf.) Ching has been used in folk medicine in Korea. In this study, a L. thunbergianus methanol extract and its fractions were investigated for their antioxidant properties. The results showed that the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions of L. thunbergianus possess potent DPPH radical scavenging activities. Both fractions also possessed reducing power and inhibited reactive oxygen species formation. In addition, the cytotoxic activity of the L. thunbergianus n-hexane fraction (HF) was investigated. The results suggested that the HF remarkably suppressed proliferation of human breast, liver and colon cancer cells. These results demonstrate, for the first time, that L. thunbergianus extract induces apoptosis in SW620 cells, suggesting that L. thunbergianus may have potential as a therapeutic agent for colon cancer.

The different polymorphisms of the transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) gene promote variances in diabetes susceptibility in humans. We investigated whether these genotypes also promote differences in diabetic susceptibility in commercial pigs. Growing pigs (Landrace, both sex, 50-60 kg) with the C/C (n=4) and T/T (n=5) TCF7L2 genotypes were identified and intravenously injected with streptozotocin (STZ, 40 mg/kg) twice in weekly intervals, then a high-energy diet was offered. Oral glucose tolerance tests, blood analyses and the homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index calculations were performed. The animals were sacrificed at the end of 12 weeks of treatment to reveal the pancreas histomorphometry. The results showed that all of the treated pigs grew normally despite exhibiting hyperglycemia at two weeks after the induction. The glycemic level of the fasting or postprandial pigs gradually returned to normal. The fasting insulin concentration was significantly decreased for the T/T carriers but not for the C/C carriers, and the resulting HOMA-IR index was significantly increased for the C/C genotype, indicating that the models of insulin dependence and resistance were respectively developed by T/T and C/C carriers. The histopathological results illustrated a significant reduction in the pancreas mass and insulin active sites, which suggested increased damage. The results obtained here could not be compared with previous studies because the TCF7L2 background has not been reported. Growing pigs may be an excellent model for diabetic in children if the animals are genetically pre-selected.

In Taiwan, there are more the one hundred GPS tracking stations maintained by Ministry of the Interior (MOI), Academia Sinica, Central Weather Bureau and Central Geological Survey. In the further, they may be instead of the GPS controlling points after giving the lawful status. In other words, the engineers don't need to survey on the reference points when they are surveying in the field. They only need to download the GPS data via internet and process the observations in their company. The precise coordinates of the unknown points will be obtained. Therefore, the data qualities of the tracking stations are more and more important. In this study, six data quality indexes were adopted as follows: observations, cycle slips, multipath on L1, multipath on L2, clock offset and frequency stability. Besides, the relationships of the indexes and the positioning precision were found. The frequency stability of GPS receiver is the most important index, the cycle slip is the second index and the mutlipath is the third index. According to the results, the auto-analytical system of GPS data quality was established and the tracking stations were monitored. When the receiver got some problem or the station's environment changed, we hope to find and resolve the problems earlier to make sure the high data quality of the tracking stations. Moreover, we try to design a data quality verification to help users and let the engineers have more and more confidence when they use the data of GPS tracking stations.

Amino acid analogs, like other inducers of stress response, induce the synthesis of stress proteins in mammalian cells. In this study, Drosophila Kc cells, in which translation is tightly controlled during stress response, was treated with proline analogs, L-azetidine-2-carboxylic acid (AzC) and 3,4-dehydro-L-proline (dh-P). Kc cells exposed to AzC or dh-P induced the synthesis of several proteins which had the same molecular weights as known heat shock proteins. However, in Kc cells, normal protein synthesis still continued in the presence of amino acids analogs unlike in heat-shocked cells. For the induction of stress response, the incorporation of dh-P into the protein was not essential, but the incorporation of AzC was. The stress protein synthesis was regulated mainly at the transcriptional level by AzC, whereas it was regulated by dh-P at the transcription level and possibly posttranscription level. During recovery, the stress protein synthesis stopped sooner in analog-treated cells than in heat-shocked cells even though the accumulated amount of Hsp70 was much less in proline analogstreated cells. It could be concluded that the proline analogs, AzC and dh-P, induced stress response through a different mechanism from heat shock.

He didn't segregate philosophy of the West from One of the Orient. He persued to harmonize each other and thought that the Western medicint theory is included in the Chinese one in many parts. besides, He recognized that it is bad to reject each other, for the medical science's purpose is to save a life, and united The Chinese-Western medicine theory, by $ch\acute{u}ng$ $ch\tilde{u}ng$ $ch\bar{u}ng$ $ts'\bar{a}n$ $hs\bar{l}$'(衷中參西) idea which refers to consult the Western medicine on the basis of the Chinese one. Medical basic theory of $Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n$ brought up new views of the theory : Dae-gi(大氣), gi-Hwa(氣化) theory, Nongangubgan byung juing chi(論肝及肝病證治), Eum her chijung ja bi(陰虛治重滋脾). Lim Sangeung yong(臨床應用) of Hyul Her gub(血虛及)-Hwal Hyul Hwa $\breve{u}$ bub(活血化瘀法), on the basis of classics, such as, "$N\breve{e}i$ Ching"(內經), "Chin Kue $\breve{i}$ $y\bar{a}o$ $l\ddot{u}{\bar{e}}h$, "Shen $n\acute{u}ng$ $p\breve{e}n$ $t\acute{s}{\check{a}}o$ ching"(新農本草經) etc. I'll sum up $Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n's$ clinical idea now He unified Sang Han(像寒)-On Byung(溫病) with Yuk Kyung Byung Jung(六經辨證) and It was noticiable to utilize a kinds of Baek Ho Tang(白虎湯). He gave a detailed description about a method of grasp the symptoms of the cause of the internal medicine diseases and pathology and, he left abundant views of theory about using remedy and experience of clinic.
