RESEARCH ON THE DRAGON IMAGE IN TURKISH MINIATURE PAINTINGS

  • The dragon of the East was an object of worship and an authority to make rain, unlike the West. The dragon image, one of the positively accepted Chinese motifs with the blue-and-white porcelain of the Ming dynasty by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, was combined with gigantic saw-edged leaves to create a genre in Saz style. By combining Eastern dragons with plant motifs instead of clouds, dragons were no longer accepted as authority and nobility but as symbols of life and longevity. Unlike Iran and other countries, the image of dragons in Turkish miniature paintings has evolved into a unique style using Turkish calligraphy. The stylistic feature is that a thick black line that gives the impression of calligraphy forms the dragon's back or a huge saz leaf stalk and forms the axis of the screen. Most of the work was black ink drawing, not painting, and partly lightly painted. In the development stage, the dragon appears as a protagonist on the screen of the early works, but the dragon retreats to the latter half and the saz leaves play a leading role on the screen. A common feature in all paintings, whether early or late, is that they have a militant character and create tension on the screen. From the viewpoint of comparative culture, Turkish dragon miniature drawings of the 16thcentury Ottoman period and the Joseon dynasty are somewhat similar in that they are based on calligraphic character and desire for longevity and loyalty, and are drawn according to certain iconic principles.

  • A Go-go-kwan is a particular hat which has worn by married woman in Mongol and Yuan dynasty in China. It is also widely called as a Boktak in Mongol. The Go-go-kwan, recorded in jip-sa and in the miniature painting of 14th century is the early type of go-go-kwan. Later type can be seen from the relic collections of Gyeonggi Provincial Museum in Korea. The Go-go-kwan is composed with three parts ; feather part, tube part and hat part. Among the feathers, the largest one is as long as four times of the length of the tube and the shortest one is half the length of the tube. The tube is made of light weight wood such as white birch or bamboo, and covered with silk. Some of the hats were made exactly to fit on the head whereas others were designed to wear on the head as like jobawi.

  • Today, one of the most important reasons that 3D software becomes a core part of the essential tools in the video contents field like the movies, animation, CF, motion graphic, games and etc. is that they can save budget of contents makings and can produce better effects than conventional methods like miniature, matt painting, extra mobilization and etc. and can save time and have the merit that they are not limited in space. In this paper, I analyzed IK(Inverse kinematics) system characteristics for the efficient education of 3D character animation particularly most used of 3D applications which is now supposed to be nearly necessary elements in game, animation, movie and contents. And by analyzing merits and demerits of each tool on Bone, Character studio and Character Animation Toolkit, systems which are most used practically in the various Inverse kinematics tools, I showed the result of analyses about the fact that educating which of the above three Inverse Kinematics tools is helpful and beneficial for the students for the efficient education in the university where should teach much in the limited time
