  • To obtain both of the fast and complete data entry and the acquisition of reusable data in a Computer-based Patient Record system (CPR), we are building the ontology that is used by the entry supporting agents. Our application domain is Traditional Chinese Medicine. As the tool for the implementation, we used protege 2000 which is ontology building tool and provides frame knowledge representation language. In this paper, the construction methodology of our ontology is reported.

  • Currently, in order to develop an intelligent search engine to help users retrieve information effectively, many metodes have been used. The effective retrieval methods of these methods use ontology technology. Ontology technology is the core of the Semantic Web. In the Semantic Web, ontology technology can be used to retrieve related information through the inference engine more accurately and simply on the Semantic Web. In this paper, we implement and design college information retrieval based on ontology to retrieve college class, graduate school class and person class. We have collected the hierarchy structure about the College, graduate school and person informations, and we have used protege editor of the ontology developing tool to design some ontologies with the College informations collected. We also tested the designed ontology with the Inference Engine(Pellet) of protege editor, and implemented college information retrieval system using Inference Engine(Jena) for web services.

  • This paper aims to propose a method for the systematic management of construction information using ontology. In particular, it was intended to propose a method to systematically manage the construction method information required by designers and constructors. The information used in this paper is a case of test-bed construction resulting from 10 years of modernized Hanok technology development research. The new construction methods of modernized Hanok were organized using the ontology editor, Protege. To this end, the concept of ontology and the process of constructing ontology have been summarized through a review of existing research first. A conceptual diagram for constructing a domain ontology of the modernized Hanok construction methods was then proposed, and the effectiveness of the proposed domain ontology was verified using the SPARQL Query function of Protege. Finally, the defined classes and construction method metadata were published on the web using ontology web language (OWL).

  • Expert system implementation of human expert's diagnosis in art psychotherapy requires extensive knowledge on: (1) characteristics in a drawing; (2) psychological symptoms in a client; (3) relationships between the characteristics and the symptoms; (4) decision process; (5) knowledge elicitation and aquisition methods. Experts from many different fields provide such knowledge, ranging from art therapists who is on the spot, psychiatrists, psychologists, artists to knowledge engineers who know how to implement the decision system to a computer. The problems that make the implementation difficult are the expert's complex decision process and the ambiguity, the inconsistency and even the contradiction in the huge volume of the knowledge. Modeling the expert's decision process, we develope a framework of the system and then analyze and classify the knowledge. With the proposed classification, we present a suitable method of knowledge elicitation and aquisition. Then, we describe the subsets of knowledge in a unified structure using the ontology concept and Protege 2000 as a tool. Finally, we apply the system to a real case to show its usability and suitability.

  • As external data have become important corporate information resources, there are growing needs to combine them with internal data. This paper proposes an ontology-based scheme to combine external data with multi-dimensional databases, which shall be called multi-dimensional event ontology. In the ontology, external data are represented as events. Event characteristics such as actors, places, times, targets are linked to dimensions of a multi-dimensional database. By mapping event characteristics to database dimensions, external event data are shared via multi-dimensional hierarchies. This paper proposes rules to synchronize information sharing in multi-dimensional event ontology such as upward event information sharing, downward event information sharing and complex event information sharing. These rules are implemented using Protege. This study has a value in suggesting Big Data information sharing processes using an event database framework.

  • In this paper, we suggest a fish drug domain ontology to show an associated information and hierarchy together through concept-relation and inference mechanism instead of keyword matching. First, we investigate competency questions from workers of fishery industry and then we derive concepts and terminologies. Next, we present a process of fish drug ontology modelling using Protege-OWL editor, which is an extension of Protege that supports the Web Ontology Language(OWL). Last, we suggest the user interface of semantic web-based fish drug information system to search easily associated informations of fish drug using this ontology. It is to provide an effective search method that fish disease manager, fish farmer, and students majoring in fisheries can confirm details of diseases, fish, and drug evaluations associated with fish drug within one screen without moving to another position.

  • This study describes the Bottom-up method for implementation of an ontology system from the RDB. The STNet, a structured terminology glossary based on RDB, was served as a test bed for converting to RDF ontology, for generating the inference rules, and for evaluating the results of the semantic search. We have used protege editor of the ontology developing tool to design ontologies with test data. We also tested the designed ontology with the Inference Engine (Pellet) of protege editor. The generated reference rules were tested by TBox and SPARQL queries through STNet ontology. The results of test show that the generated reference rules were verified as true and STNet ontology were also evaluated to be useful for searching the complex combination of semantic relation.

  • The decision making process is based on accurate and timely available information. To obtain precise information from the internet is becoming more difficult due to the continuous increase in vagueness and uncertainty from online information resources. This also poses a problem for blind people who desire the full use from online resources available to other users for decision making in their daily life. Ontology is considered as one of the emerging technology of knowledge representation and information sharing today. Fuzzy logic is a very popular technique of artificial intelligence which deals with imprecision and uncertainty. The classical ontology can deal ideally with crisp data but cannot give sufficient support to handle the imprecise data or information. In this paper, we incorporate fuzzy logic with heavyweight ontology to solve the imprecise information extraction problem from heterogeneous misty sources. Fuzzy ontology consists of fuzzy rules, fuzzy classes and their properties with axioms. We use Fuzzy OWL plug-in of Protege to model the fuzzy ontology. A prototype is developed which is based on OWL-2 (Web Ontology Language-2), PAL (Protege Axiom Language), and fuzzy logic in order to examine the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • A knowledge map is a diagramed network among knowledge which is related with each other in terms of the referential navigation. To formally as well as structurely represent various contextual use of knowledge, the ontology technology has been recommended to be applied. This research proposes a methodology to build the ontology-based knowledge map promoting referential navigation between knowledge. To prove the validity of the proposed concepts, an ontology-based knowledge map is designed as an example, which demonstrates whether the designed knowledge network in the knowledge map is underpinned by the referential navigation between knowledge.
