Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify levels of knowledge, need, and usage of medical terminology in clinical nurses. Methods: Participants for this study consisted of 127 clinical nurses who work at one general hospital located in Seoul in Korea. The data was collected from April 1st to the 22nd in 2014. Participants responded to self-administered questionnaires about their knowledge, need, and usage of English medical terminology, Chinese character medical terminology, and Korean medical terminology. The data was analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's test as post hoc and Pearson's correlation. Results: The mean scores of knowledge and needs with English medical terminology were high. English medical terminology and Chinese character medical terminology were more useful tools for disease than Korean medical terminology. Knowledge of medical terminology was positively correlated between needs and correct use with the clinical nursing situation. Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be concluded that medical terminology education for bio-nursing curriculum is important for clinical nurses and standardization of essential medical terminology is needed.

용어 의미 표준화를 통한 업무의 효율성을 높이기 위해서 다양한 분야에서 전문용어가 구축 활용되고 있으며, 국방분야에서도 국방용어 사전 발간을 통해 각 군의 효율적인 업무 연계 및 표준화된 국방 용어 유통체계를 정립하는데 노력하고 있다. 국방기술품질원에서도 3년을 주기로 국방과학기술분야의 전문용어 사전을 발간함으로써 전문용어 구축 표준화 연구는 물론, 전문용어의 활용성 제고에 힘쓰고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국방기술품질원에서 전문용어 사전을 실제로 구축하는데 필요한 구축 프로세스와 조직, 이를 지원하기 위한 워크벤치에 대해서 기술하고 있다. 즉, 국방과학기술 전문용어 사전을 구축하기 위한 전문용어 사전구축 프로세스 및 조직의 구성, 표제어 정의, 전문용어 후보 추출을 위한 대상 문서의 선정, 전문용어 후보추출, 전문용어 후보군 생성, 워크벤치 등록, 사전 구축, 사전 검증 과정에 대해서 설명하고 있다, 또한 전문 용어 사전의 활용성 제고를 위해서 시소러스를 구축 활용하는 내용은 물론, 전문용어 사전 구축을 위해서 개발된 워크벤치의 기능을 중심으로 효율적인 전문용어 사전 구축 지원 방법에 대해서도 기술한다.

본 연구는 학생들이 과학 용어에 대한 이해도가 낮음으로 인해 발생하는 여러 가지 문제점들을 해결하기 위한 방안으로 과학 용어 교육을 별도로 실시할 것을 제안하며, 이를 위한 기초 조사로 현장의 과학 교사들을 대상으로 과학 용어 교육에 대한 인식을 조사하고자 실시되었다. 조사는 설문 조사를 통해 진행되었으며 설문 문항은 과학 용어에 대한 인식, 과학 교육에서 과학 용어에 대한 인식, 과학 용어 교육에 대한 인식, 과학 용어 교육 방안에 대한 의견으로 구성하였다. 그 결과 과학 교사들 역시 학생들과 마찬가지로 과학 용어를 어려워하고 친숙하지 못한 것으로 인식하고 있었으며, 과학 용어가 학생들의 과학 학습에 중요한 영향을 미치므로 별도의 용어 교육을 실시할 필요가 있으나 현재는 용어를 어떻게 교육하면 좋을지에 대한 방법적 지식을 갖고 있지 않아 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 교사들이 원하는 과학 용어 교육의 형태는 교과서에 새로운 용어가 나올 때 마다 해당 페이지에 새로운 용어라는 표시와 함께 설명을 제시해 주는 것이었다. 과학 용어 교육을 실시하기 위해서는 방대한 양의 조사를 바탕으로 한 체계적인 기초 연구가 이루어져야 하므로 관련 전문가들의 많은 관심과 연구가 필요하다.

유헬스 산업 활성화를 위해서 유헬스와 관련된 용어의 이해를 돕고, 의사소통을 증진시키기 위한 유헬스 표준용어를 개발할 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 유헬스 표준용어를 개발하고, 이를 위한 용어 표준화 절차에 대한 지침을 제시하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 유헬스 관한 보고서, 용어집 및 정보통신기술협회 표준을 대상으로 자료수집, 용어추출, 용어정제, 용어선정 및 용어관리 절차를 통해 최종 187개의 유헬스 표준용어를 개발하였다. 연구결과, 국내 실정에 부합하는 유헬스 용어 표준화를 위한 지침을 제시하였으며, 이는 유헬스 표준용어의 정의, 분류, 구성요소, 절차에 따른 방법 및 원칙에 대한 상세한 내용을 포함하였다. 본 연구에서 제시된 유헬스 표준용어 및 용어 표준화 가이드라인은 개별 용어 도입 및 관리를 위한 비용을 절감하고, 정보교환을 용이하도록 도움으로써 유헬스 산업 전반의 효율성을 향상시킬 것이다.

As the Western technologies have been introduced to our culture since the modern age. We have uncritically accepted Japanese style terminology for new things without reflection on the relations of concept, language and fact. Concept is the basis of human thinking and also a criterion of distinguishing what we see and hear. Thus, establishment of concept and naming are important once new technologies or objects are created. In the study, we will take automobile terminology which is relatively familiar to us for example in order to explain the importance of naming. We will reflect our reality where the Japanese style terminology and English style terminology for the automobile components and structures are mixed up and urge the need of establishing the easier terminology. Reorganizing the terminology is also important but automotive engineers and linguists need to work together on ways to translate the terminology into easier ones for common people.

Through the correspondence works with international electrotechnical vocabulary(IEV) in the smart grid field and power information technology field, we analyzed cases for discussion of terms and definitions in the IEV and then proposed an advanced procedure and computing system for standardization of International Electronical Committee(IEC) terminologies. The standardization procedure consists of processes for existing terminology, new terminology and correspondent terminology which have different structures. An example of the standardization work of correspondent terminology is given. The standardization computing system are based on the process for terminology extraction, terminology verification and terminology management which could provide the Wikipedia type terminology search function. In order to prevent that there exist multiple terminologies in IEV, the database search system is needed to be developed. We proposed the 'IEV_Term_Search' program which is the database search system. Terminology standardization of different technical committees(TC) and completion of the IEV to promote cooperation between TC 1 and the TCs must be followed by revision and standardization using the standardization computing system.

Although scholarly terminology should have clear meanings as signs, Korean pagoda terminology has become jargon and is creating difficulties in communicating meanings which are far from the originally intended meanings; this terminology is sometimes notated in dead language, meaning old Chinese characters, or Japanese styled Chinese characters. Nobody has asked questions on the terminology itself which has long been commonly used for a century, since the Japanese-ruling period. One of the main reasons for this error is that the Indian Buddhist scriptures in Sanskrit has been translated into Chinese with vague understanding of form and meaning of stupa since 3rd Century A.D. On the other hand, the English-language terminology, already built by Indology scholars since the beginning of the 20th century, consists of easier language and clearer meanings. This paper examines misunderstanding and mistranslation of the original Indian stupa terms and suggests new terminology in current, easier language.

Background : Mutual understanding between North and South Korea is essential for the engagement of Inter-Korean exchange and cooperation. However, the two Koreas have been divided for 70 years where Korean evolved differently within the two countries. This created a gap in the most basic foundation for mutual understanding, language. Fostering exchange and cooperation in the traditional medicine field requires a higher understanding of the specialized traditional medicine terminologies. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to formulate a future management plan for the "Comparative Terminology of Korean Medicine in South and North Korea," providing a foundation for standardizing Korean medicine terminology of the two Koreas. Methods : The study collected case studies of Korean medicine terminology management and standardization from government and international organization websites and documents. It provided future terminology management strategies based on this data. Results : The project for the standardization of Korean medicine terminology between North and South Korea can be divided into 4 stages according to the level of exchange and cooperation. The first step is to "establish a foundation for terminology standardization." The second step is "term comparison." If the exchanges and cooperation between North and South Korea, the third step will be to promote the "terminology standardization" project through Inter-Korean dialogue. Finally, after incorporating discussion on terminology standardization, the Inter-Korean Medicine Terminology can be published. Conclusions : This requires a system to support and facilitate Inter-Korean medicine exchange and cooperation. It is important to provide a support system that can provide results in a timely fashion by training relevant experts, collecting data and information, communicating with experts in the industry, academia and research institutes. This system will be able to ensure the continuity of the terminology standardization project.

본 연구는 IEC 60050-801:1994 국제 표준을 기준으로 남한 산업표준과 북한 국가규격의 음향학 전문용어 431개를 비교 분석하고 통합 알고리즘을 사용하여 남북한 음향학 용어 통합안을 제시하였다. 용어가 완전히 같은 형태인 AA형은 139개(32.3 %), 어문규범의 차이로 인해 표기 형태가 다른 Aa형은 35개(8.1 %), 형태가 완전히 다른 AB유형은 257개(59.6 %)로 확인되었다. 형태적으로 같은 유형의 용어보다 다른 유형의 용어가 2배 이상 많았으나 내용 면에서 대부분 용어는 충분히 이해하고 유추할 수 있는 범위 안에 있었다. 형태가 다른 음향학 전문용어 통합에서는 북한 전문용어가 178개(61 %), 남한 전문용어가 76개(26 %)로 채택되었다. 이와 같은 결과는 북한 전문용어가 고유성이 압도적으로 높았고, 남한 전문용어는 경제성이 상대적으로 높았기 때문이다. 용어 순화를 통한 고유성과 최신 기술 용어의 대중 활용을 높일 수 있는 경제성 기준을 충족하는 음향학 전문용어 통합 체계 구축이 필요하다. 본 연구는 남북한 음향학 전문용어를 최초로 비교하고 통합안 제시에 의의가 있으며 다음과 같은 제언으로 연구 한계를 극복하고자 한다. 첫째, 정부는 남북한 학술 교류 및 표준화 공통 안을 마련할 수 있도록 지원 및 법적인 장치를 마련하고 북한 관련 연구 데이터에 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 연구 환경을 조성해야 한다. 둘째, 음향학 용어 데이터를 남북한이 공유하고 통합 음향학 용어사전을 발간하도록 노력해야 한다. 셋째, 추후 남북이 전문용어 위원회를 함께 발족하여 표준 개정이 동시에 이루어지도록 노력해야 한다.

Objectives : Our study aims to provide a collaborative Internet terminology dictionary like Wikipedia, where about 30,000 concept terminologies with respect to traditional Korean medicine (TKM) are shared and TKM experts can edit the terminologies. Methods : The concept terminologies have been collected and refined for three years by the terminology management system, a custom-made software built upon the Oracle database, where each terminology is divided and normalized into one or more tables. The operation of Wikipedia depends on MediaWiki, a free and open source wiki software built upon the MySQL database. The database schema of our terminology management system is different from that of MediaWiki so that MediaWiki cannot used as our terminology dictionary. Thus, we propose a way to share and edit TKM terminologies with wiki-like user interface. Results : We devise a new terminology dictionary system to search and edit terminology upon the database of the terminology management system. The online terminology dictionary of TKM has the user interface and functions which is similar to Wikipedia to support collaborative works. Conclusions : Wikipedia is operated on MediaWiki which is can be downloaded and used freely under the GNU General Public License. However, there occur problems to use MediaWiki upon the legacy system. Thus, other wiki projects start, they should be considered.
