Background : Mutual understanding between North and South Korea is essential for the engagement of Inter-Korean exchange and cooperation. However, the two Koreas have been divided for 70 years where Korean evolved differently within the two countries. This created a gap in the most basic foundation for mutual understanding, language. Fostering exchange and cooperation in the traditional medicine field requires a higher understanding of the specialized traditional medicine terminologies. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to formulate a future management plan for the "Comparative Terminology of Korean Medicine in South and North Korea," providing a foundation for standardizing Korean medicine terminology of the two Koreas. Methods : The study collected case studies of Korean medicine terminology management and standardization from government and international organization websites and documents. It provided future terminology management strategies based on this data. Results : The project for the standardization of Korean medicine terminology between North and South Korea can be divided into 4 stages according to the level of exchange and cooperation. The first step is to "establish a foundation for terminology standardization." The second step is "term comparison." If the exchanges and cooperation between North and South Korea, the third step will be to promote the "terminology standardization" project through Inter-Korean dialogue. Finally, after incorporating discussion on terminology standardization, the Inter-Korean Medicine Terminology can be published. Conclusions : This requires a system to support and facilitate Inter-Korean medicine exchange and cooperation. It is important to provide a support system that can provide results in a timely fashion by training relevant experts, collecting data and information, communicating with experts in the industry, academia and research institutes. This system will be able to ensure the continuity of the terminology standardization project.

Objective : The using of termionology in medicine is important because terminology discriminates the meaning of words. In that aspect, there are conflicts that bao has plenty of meanings as medical terminology(womb and urinary bladder). Therefor, we need to discriminate and define bao. Method : We compare terminology of bao and words related with bao such as pao(胞) in "Dongeuibogam", "Hwangdineijing" and medical dictionary. Also we try to define right meaning of words as medical terminology. Result : Bao has several meanings in medical books. However, they have tendencies that could make scholars choose appropriate terminology in medicine. Conclusion : Bao is preferred as a womb and pao is prefferd as a urinary bladder in medical terminology.

Objective : This study aims to analyze the current use of body part terminology in Korean medicine formula data by comparing with ICD-11 body part terminology as a criteria. Methods : Body part terminology was extracted from the main treatment data within the Korean Medicine formula ontology and was analyzed in comparison with the ICD-11 body part terminology. Results : Out of 113 body part terminologies in Korean medicine, 92 were corresponded with ICD in a one-to-one, one-to-multi, or multi-to-one relation. Also, most body part terminologies were corresponded to superordinate concepts of ICD while 21 terminologies were not able to be corresponded to ICD. Conclusion : A majority of body part terminology in formula data could be corresponded to ICD but mostly refered to superordinate concepts. Results showed various types of corresponding relation which requires further study for precise and detailed correspondence. Also, study showed some terminologies were not applicable for correspondence which were mostly a unique body part concept of Korean medicine which requires further study to present Korean Medicine knowledge accurately in the language of ICD.

Objectives : Our study aims to provide a collaborative Internet terminology dictionary like Wikipedia, where about 30,000 concept terminologies with respect to traditional Korean medicine (TKM) are shared and TKM experts can edit the terminologies. Methods : The concept terminologies have been collected and refined for three years by the terminology management system, a custom-made software built upon the Oracle database, where each terminology is divided and normalized into one or more tables. The operation of Wikipedia depends on MediaWiki, a free and open source wiki software built upon the MySQL database. The database schema of our terminology management system is different from that of MediaWiki so that MediaWiki cannot used as our terminology dictionary. Thus, we propose a way to share and edit TKM terminologies with wiki-like user interface. Results : We devise a new terminology dictionary system to search and edit terminology upon the database of the terminology management system. The online terminology dictionary of TKM has the user interface and functions which is similar to Wikipedia to support collaborative works. Conclusions : Wikipedia is operated on MediaWiki which is can be downloaded and used freely under the GNU General Public License. However, there occur problems to use MediaWiki upon the legacy system. Thus, other wiki projects start, they should be considered.

The purpose of this study is standardization of herbology terminology. For a long time, it was important problem that the Oriental Medicine didn't have standardization of terminology. For this reason, development of oriental medicine has been slow. We studied how we search methods of herb efficacy by the use of terminology table. In this way, we will suggest basic data and helpful methods of standardization of Oriental Medicine terminology.

Background : Currently, the absence of a unified terminology and proper translation about Traditional Korean Medicine is a problem that should be solved. Although Traditional Korean Medicine has undergone steady growth in popularity during the past years, the Westerner's poor access to information has been drawback to its reception in the West. Objective : This research is aimed to seek system for standardization of stroke terminology and proper translation into English. Conclusion : We proposed the method of making unified terminology and translation about stroke in Traditional Korean Medicine.

The discipline of terminology is based on its own theoretical principles and consists primarily of the following aspects: analysing the concepts and concept structures used in a field or domain of activity, identifying the terms assigned to the concepts, in the case of bilingual or multilingual terminology, establishing correspondences between terms in the various languages, creating new terms, as required. The word properties has syntax, morphology and orthography. The syntax is that how words are put together. The morphology is consist of inflection, derivation, and compounding. The orthography is spelling. Otherwise, the terms of TKM(Traditional Korean Medicine) is two important element of visual character and phonetic notation. A visual character consist of spell, sort words, stop words, etc. For example, that is a case of sort words in which this '다한', '한다', '多汗', '汗多' as same. A phonetic notation consist of palatalization, initial law, etc. For example, that is a case of palatalization in which this '수족랭', '수족냉', '手足冷', '手足冷' as same. Therefore, to enlarged reference terminology is a method by term's normalization. For such a reason, TKM's terms of normalization is necessary.

The education of traditional Korean medicine has been challenged for the lack of illustrated explanation of fundamental and pivotal concepts. The purpose of this study was to make suggestions for the diagrammatic concept on Qi. Thorough review was made performed to elucidate pictorial concept of Qi with medical classics and textbooks on the human physiology based on the central theories including Yin-Yang, five phase, and correspondence between nature and human. Medical terminology and its taxonomy for the Qi were examined here. We proposed more clarified terminology and related metabolic pathways for the design of schematic illustration of Qi. This study would contribute to the development of introductive drawings and educational materials fit for the apprentice.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the use of Korean and English terminology of acupotomy therapy among Korean Researchers. Methods: The search was conducted on eight medical journals (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, OASIS, KISS, IMR, NDSL, RISS), Google Scholar and 8 Korean medine journals. The definitions of acupotomy therapy, Korean and English terminology were analyzed in the studies that met the criteria. Results: A total of 60 studies were finally included in the analysis. In Korean terminology, Chim-Do was the most used with 37 studies, Do-Chim with 23 (including duplicates). In English termology, 46 studies were used acupotomy and 10 studies were used miniscalpel acupuncture. Conclusions: As a result of analyzing the terminology use of acupotomy therapy studies in Korea, it was confirmed that Korean and English terminology are different according to the study. It will be necessary to discuss the standardization of terminology.

Based on the previous translation studies and "WHO-IST", we selected terminology, which are required the definition and explanation among jargon expressed in "Dongeuisusebowon Discourse on Nature and Act", and the procedure of the definition, explanation, and translation in Korean and English has been followed. The outcomes of this study are presented as below: First, based on the existing translation studies, Korean and English translation of "Dongeuisusebowon Discourse on Nature and Act" is provided. Second, few of Terminology in "Dongeuisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)" have been written in WHO-IST, even most of them have been standardized in terms of "Huang Di Nei Jing(黃帝內經)". Therefore, terminology related to Four-constitution medicine in WHO-IST would be required to be corrected, and unattatched terminology should be added in the future. Third, in order to standardize and globalize Four-constitution medicine, further definition, explanation, and translation studies of the rest of Dongeuisusebowon should be continued.
