  • A Study was researched in oder to classify the clinical symptoms of the diabetes mellitus according of the Sasang constitution that is used to treat and manage the diabetics. We collected 98 patients with diabetes who were diagnosed Sasang constitution at department of Sasang constitutional Medicine in Dongeui Oriental Hospital during 1 year from August. 2000 to July. 2002. and then we investigated and analyzed the clinical symptoms of the diabetics according of the Sasang constitution, and 98 patient was examinated. We investigated the clinical symptoms of the diabetes according of the Sasang constitution to find relationship between the symptoms and the Sasang constitutions. The result of it, we found that it is different between the symptoms according of the Sasang constitution in first symptoms of the diabetes mellitus, weight, appetite, urine and drinking water. Therefore we have found that it is possibility to classify the clinical symptoms of the diabetes mellitus patients according of the Sasang constitution.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), and to evaluate the factors affecting LUTS in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: The cross sectional study was used with a structured questionnaire to collect data through interviews with 181 T2DM patients and their clinical data from a university hospital diabetes clinic from October 2010 to April 2012. LUTS were measured using the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), depression using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) from the clinical data. Results: Of all patients with T2DM, the mean IPSS of LUTS was $9.34{\pm}6.86$. Concerning the reported severity of LUTS, 53.6% of the subjects were in the moderate and severe group. In each symptom score of LUTS (range 0-5), nocturia was the highest 2.04, weak stream 1.62, and frequency 1.45. LUTS was significantly predicted by HbA1c and depression, and 14.3% of the variance in LUTS was explained. Conclusion: HbA1c and depression were found to be very important factors associated with LUTS in T2DM patients.

  • This is a clinical report on a patient with Diabetes Mellitus treated with Traditional Korean Medicine. We applied herbal medication and western medication depending of symptoms of the patient. We observed the change of serum glucose (FBS/PP2hrs) daily and HbA1c. During the treatment and observation, result of serum glucose (FBS/PP2hrs) and HbA1c was well controlled and insulin administration was decreased. Above the results, Traditional Korean Medicine was effective to control type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Backgroud and Purpose ; I intented to be helpful to treat diabetes through a clinical study of effect of soyangin Yangkyuksanwha-tang(凉膈散火湯). Methods : I studied 5 patients with upper diabetes who were diagnosed by Soyangin at department of Sasang constitutional Medicine in Dongeui Oriental Hospital during 1 year from August. 2001 to July. 2002. and then I investigated the clinical symptoms of the diabetics and analyzed level of examination after administration of Yangkyuksanwha-tang. Results and Conclusion ; Yangkyuksanwha-tang was administered to five diabetic patients, So-yang-in for 8 weeks. The symptoms such as frequent urination(P<0.05), thirst with frequent drinking water(P<0.01) have improved after the treatment. As results, level of FBS(P<0.01), total protein(P<0.05) and blood pressure(P<0.05) significantly decreased after administration of Yangkyuksanwha-tang.

  • Background: Clinical manifestations of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) vary along the course of nerve damage. Nerve conduction studies (NCS) have been suggested as a way to confirm diagnoses of DPN, but the results have limited utility for evaluating clinical phenotypes. The current perception threshold (CPT) is a complementary method for diagnosing DPN and assessing DPN symptoms. We compared NCS variables according to clinical phenotypes determined by CPT measurements. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who underwent both NCS and CPT tests using a neurometer. CPT grades were used to determine the clinical phenotypes of DPN: normoesthesia (0 to 1.66), hyperesthesia (1.67 to 6.62), and hypoesthesia/anesthesia (6.63 to 12.0). The Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) was used to determine a subjective symptom score. DPN was diagnosed based on both patient symptoms (MNSI score ${\geq}3$) and abnormal NCS results. Results: A total of 202 patients (117 men and 85 women) were included in the final analysis. The average age was 62.6 years, and 71 patients (35.1%) were diagnosed with DPN. The CPT variables correlated with MNSI scores and NCS variables in patients with diabetes. Linear regression analyses indicated that hypoesthesia was associated with significantly lower summed velocities and sural amplitudes and velocities, and higher summed latencies, than normoesthesia. Sural amplitude was significantly lower in patients with hyperesthesia than in patients with normoesthesia. Conclusion: NCS variables differed among patients with diabetes according to clinical phenotypes based on CPT and decreased sural nerve velocities was associated with hyperesthesia.

  • 1. Background and Purpose 1 intented to be helpful to treat diabetes through a clinical study of lndongdeungjikolpitang effect of soyangm 2. Methods I studied 6 patients with middle diabetes who were diagnosed by Soyangin at department of Sasang constitutional Medicine in Dongeui Oriental Hospital during 1 year from August. 2001 to July. 2002. and then I investigated the clinical symptoms of the diabetics and analyzed level of examination after administration of lndongdeungjikolpitang 3. Results and Conclusion lndongdeungjikolpitang was administered to six diabetic patients, So-yang-in for 8 weeks. The symptoms such as frequent hunger(P<0.05), decrease of body weight(P<0.05) have improved after the treatment. As results, level of HbAlC(P<0.05), total protein(P<0.05) and blood pressure(P<0.05) significantly decreased after administration of Indongdeungjikolpitang.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of administration of Mushroom yogurt on the Diabetes Millitus paitients. 2. Methods We collected 24 Taeumin patients with glycosurea in Dongeui Oriental Hospital, and then adminisrtation of Mushroom yogurt, medical examinations and questionnaire test of symptons for 13 weeks. 3. Results (1) At the symptoms change : Subjects of glycosurea clincal symptoms questionnarie which showed improvement above 50 percents were 'I have to urinate frequently' and 'I feel severe thirst'. (n=22) (2) Level of FBS significantly decreased at the inspection of 5 weeks 9 weeks 11 weeks afterwards(P-value=0.008, P-value=0.002, P-value=0.022), Level of HbA1c significantly decreased at the inspection of 13weeks afterwards(P-value=0.000).(n= 24) 4. Conclusions We have concluded that these effects must be useful in the clincal study of the Sasang constitutional treatment on Diabetes Mellitus Patients.
